THEATRIGAL. SEAT cous'ravc'rron Original Fi1-ed Jan. 6. 1928 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented Jan. 6, 1931 UNITED STATES LUCIANO CHERSANAZ AND GUILLERMQ ALVAREZ, OF BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA THEATRIGALFSEAT cons'rnnc'rroiv Application filed January e, 1928, Serial No. 244,980, and in Argentina October 8, 1927. Renewed November This invention relates to a; new and im-, proved form of construction for theatres andthe like, and has for its object a special form of construction of the galleries, boxes, stalls,
seats, etc., which not only economizes'space,
sloped away from the stage, so that the highest tiers or galleries are much farther away from the stage than the, lower ones. The principal feature of the present invention is to construct the said. tiers in what may be called over-hanging position, that is to say, the upper tiers of seats or boxesare nearer the stage than the lower ones, so that, taking into consideration the height of the upper tiers, they are all very nearly at the same distance from the stage.
Other features of the invention will appear in the course of this specification, and will be set forth in the appended claims.
In the attached drawings, which illustrate a form of construction embodying the invention, Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of a hall or theatre constructed according to this invention; Fig. 2 is a cross section of the same showing the system adapted to a dome shaped ceiling; Fig. 3 is a similar section showing a horizontal ceiling; Fig. 4 is a plan of the hall and graded overhanging boxes or .galleries; and Fig. 5 is a detail section of one of the overhanging boxes.
In the said drawings, in which like numerals indicate like parts in all the figures, it will be noted primarily, that the form of construction makes it possible to make the boxes with a high ceiling, since the forwardly proj ecting floor of each one of the succeeding upper tiers is on a level of more or less one-half the height ofthe next lower tier, so that a.
greater number of tiers may be placed in a given vertical total, than with the usual sys tem, and direct ventilation may be obtained by means of ventilating windows placed in the rear wall of each box or stall. Y
In the said figures, 1 represents the graded or overhanging boxes; 2 the windows for direct ventilation; 3 the opening giving a-view ;of the stage to the occupants of the boxes or seats; 4 the principal beams of the construc-, tion; 5 the ceiling of the boxes; 6 the stage; 7;.the pit, andiS the dress circle. It is understood that thedrawings show a specimen form of construction embodying the invention, and that the usual modifications of construction details which naturally occur to an experienced architect or builder, will not affect the essence of the invention as set forth in the appended claims. It is also understood that the word seats is meant to include boxes, stalls andany other form of seat. Having described our invention, what we claim is:
Y 1. A formof construction for theatre seats and the like comprising a plurality of rooms containing tiersof seats, each room being oil'- set vertically and horizontally in sequence from the lower room whereby each succeeding room from the rear to the front is horizontally nearer the stage than the next lower room, the forwardly projecting floor of each upper room being at a lower level than the ceiling of the next lower room and the rear wall of an upper room and the front wall of a' lower room being in the same verticalopening .ofone room beinglocated above v the ceiling of the next adjacent room thereunder. i g i I Signed at Buenos 'Aires, Argentina, this 30th day of NovembenA. D. 1927.
