Description
Jan 69 i931. .1. H. KELLOGG ANAL DOUCHE Filed Aug. 22. 1928 IQENTOR Jai/f Mil/agg Eff/LKW d ATTORNEYS Patented Jan. 6, 1931 PATENT OFFICE JOHN HARVEY KELLOGG, OF BATTLE CREEK, AMICHIGAN ANAL DOUCHE Application led August 22, 1928. Serial No. 301,181.
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide in combination with a water closet an anal douche in which the jet is delivered or discharged in a manner to be very eiective and at the same time one in which the jet delivery nozzle is fully protected.
Second,l to provide a douche in combina' tion with a water closet in which the seat of 1o the closet constitutes a guiding element for the jet or stream of water.
Objects pertaining to details and economies of construction and operation of my invention will definitely appear from the description to follow. The invention is defined in the claims.
A structure which embodies the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a detail side elevation of a water closet embodying the features of my improved douche in vertical section on a line corresponding to line 1-1 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary plan view showing the relation of the nozzle andwater supply to the bowl and seat.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail section corresponding to that of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a detail vertical section of a modiied form or embodiment of my invention.
Referring to the drawing, the closet bowl 1 may be of any suitable type, the structure illustrated being provided with a flushing tank 2. The seat 3 is hinged at 4.
The water supply conduit 7 is provided with a nozzle or tip 8 which is disposed to deliver against the under side and across the edge of the seat, the seat constituting a guiding and directing element. In passing from the edge of the seat the water curves'upwardly as indicated at 10, thereby effectively directing the same. The seat when closed Y constitutes a shield or guard for the nozzle.
' The conduit is controlled by a valve shown conventionally at 11. i
In the modification shown in Fig. 4 the bowl 12 has a water passage 13formed therein and controlled by the valve 14. The seat 3 is hinged as at 4 and is provided with a groove 5. The nozzle 15 is mounted on the under side of the seat to discharge into this groove. The discharge portion 16 of the conduit 7 is directed forwardly and provided with a resilient conical coupling member 17 while the nozzle has a conical recess 18 which 55 engages this resilient coupling when the seat is closed, thereby automatically forming a goint or connection for the nozzle to the conuit.
I have shown a conventional valve 11 and either hot or cold water may be employed, but I desire to mention that it is sometimes desirable to use a mixing valve with a supply of hot and cold water so that the temperature may be regulated and varied, or shifted from hot to cold, or vice versa.
The water is delivered effectively against the anal region and at the same time is not likely to be thrown or discharged from the bowl. The nozzle is so protected that it does 7 not become unsanitary. The structure has the further advantage of being very simple and economical.
I have illustrated and described my improvements in an embodiment which I have found very successful and practical. I have not attempted to illustrate the various embodiments and adaptations which I contemplate as I believe this disclosure will enable those skilled in the art to which my invention relates to embody or adapt the same as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. In a douche, the combination with a bowl, of a coacting hinged seat, a nozzle disposed centrally at the rear of the bowl and so that its tip is covered by said seat when the seat is closed and delivering forwardly against theunder side of the seat, and a valve for controlling said nozzle.
2. In a douche, the combination of a seat, and a nozzle disposed centrally at the rear of said seat and with the tip below the seat to deliver forwardly against the under side thereof.
3. In a douche, the combination with a bowl, of a seat, and means for directing a jet e of water horizontally against the under side and across the inner edge of the seat.
4. Ina douche, the combination with a bowl and seat, of means for directing a jet of water against the under side of said seat and across the edge thereof so that the jet is caused to curve upwardly within the opening of the seat.
5. In, a douche, the combination with a bowl and seat, of means for directing a jet against the under side of the seat, the seat constituting a directing means for the jet.
6. In a douche, the combination with a bowl, of a coacting seat, andmeans for delivering a jet of water forwardly against the under side of said seat at the rear thereof.
7. In a douche, the combination with a bowl, of a seat, and means for directing a jet of water against thel under side of said seat.
8. In a. douche, the combination with a bowl, of a coacting scat having a forwardly and upwardly inclined channel in its under side disposed centrally at the rear thereof, the front edge of the channel being upwardly curved, and a nozzle delivering upwardly and forwardly longitudinally of said channel.
9. In a douche, the combination with a bowl, of a coacting seat having an upwardly inclined channel in its under side disposed centrally at the rear thereof, and a nozzle delivering upwardly and longitudinally of said channel.
10. In a douche, the combination with a bowl, of a coacting seat having a channel in its .under side, and a nozzle delivering upwardly and longitudinally of said channel.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
JOHN HARVEY KELLOGG.
