.The object of the invention is to provide an improved release mechanism for auxiliary locks for safes, vaults, and the like,1 which will function quickly and with certainty upon punching, blowing; or other dislocation of the usual combination boX, and which will also 't'unct ion'quicklyand certainly upon severing orburning ofthe door itself.
Numerous other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent as itis better understood from the following description, which, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, discloses a preferred em-' bodiment thereof. 1

One end 1'? of the tensioned wiring leads to and'isc'onnected with the auxiliary locking mechanism is and on release of the tension of the wiring, however accomplished, the auxiliary locking mechanism is set into immediate operation to lock the door independently. The other end 18 of the protective wiring v is connected to a spring 19, which in turn is secured at 20 to the door 11. This spring 19 maintains the wiring 15 under tension and through the wiring restrains the auxiliary locking-mechanism from operation.
The illustrative release mechanismv provides for insuring a rapid positive disconnection of thewirmg, so as to release its tension immediately upon punching, blowing, or other d slocation of the combination box or burningof the door. The release mechanism 21 is preferably located in the vicinity of the combination box 12 and the wiring 15 is guided-by top and bottom pulleys 22, soas to p'ass'to one side of the combination boX and into operative relationship with the release mechanism.
Ihe illustrative release mechanism is shown more particularly in Figs. 2 to 6 of the drawings; Secured to thelinner face of the door 11, by screws 23 or other suitable fasteningdevices, is a fined plate 24: provided with a longitudinally disposed channel or recess 25 extending from end to end of the plate.
The. wiring 15 passes through the channel 25 within which it is to be interrupted as a result of attack upon the vault door and consists of two wires connected at their ends within the channel 25 and leading respectively to the spring19 and relocking device 14. The punching or blowing of the combination box or the burning of the door results in disconnection of the two wire members of the wiring and in operation of the relocking mechanism 14. Mounted on the outer face of the movable plate 29 is a horizoiitally projecting bar 36 provided with an axially extendedsocket 37.
This socket 37 receives the horizontal pin 38, which be fixed in the socket 37 by means of a set screw 39 screwed from one side of the ba and into the socket 37, so as to engage the pin38.
