This invention relates to means for controlling movements of the color slide ot'an automatic m'ulticolorweit replenishing mechanism. and it is the general object of the invention to simplify the controls for the color slide by eliminating moving parts heretofore considered'necessary in this type of motion.
The ordinary multicolor weft, replenishing mechanism embraces in its construction a longitudinally and angularly movable color slide which movesunder control of thebo'X motion or pattern mechanism to assume a plurality of positions dependent upon the number of shuttle boxes and movable angularly in opposite directions to effect releasing of bobbins from the magazine. As usually constructed there is a'bell crank lever having a pin and grooved collar connection with the color slide, the lever being connected to some portion of the box motion or pattern mechanism byintermediate connections and being supported by a separate cast ng which is bolted to theniain frame of the magazine.
It'is an importantobject of my present invention to extend the color slide and associate therewith a yielding element which is stressed in a direction substantially parallel to the axis of the color slide and acts to move the color slide in one direction.
It is a further object of my present inven tion to form a sliding rod which serves as part of the color slide with an extension around which is mounted'a tension spring one end of which is held by fixed structure and the other end of which is operatively related to the rear end of the rod, said spring operating to move the color slide forwardly. lVith these and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceedsymy 1928. Referring particularly to Fig. 1, the maga- Zine stand is provided with a plurality of stacks ofbobbins. Said fingers cooperate with the lugsv and 16 to raise and lower the vertical slides.
The "color slide is provided with afin or Web 25 which slides through a rocking member 26 positioned vertically by a rod 27 The rod 27 is given an upward motion every alternate beat of the loom when the shuttle is on the drop box endof the loom and is given a downwardinovement whenever the weft de. tector, not'shown', indicates substantial weft exhaustion. By these two movements of the rod 27 therod 21 is rocked in its bearings.

My present invention relates particularly to the means for moving the color slide to the right as viewed in Fig. 1 and in carrying my invention into eiiect I extend the rod 21 rearwardly as at 40 and disposetherearound a tension spring 41. The right hand end of said spring is bent as at 42 to extend over the rear bearing22 and is hooked as at 4.3 around the rod 21 on the right hand or forward side of i Cir said bearing 42. In this way the right hand end of the spring as shown in Fig. 1 is limited as to movement to the left.
The rear i of the extension :0 is perfoas at i and has the rear end of the spring 11 extended therethrough at 45. If desired a ring 46 may also extend through the perforation ll and be attached to a chain a7 which as shown in 3 may extend over an idler sheave 48. Said chain 1-! connected to a lever 49 located at the opposite end of the loom and positioned by mechanism operated by the box motion or if desired by any mechanism controlled by the pattern mechanism not shown. It suiiicient for my present purposes to state that the chain will be moved to give the rod 21 as many differentrlongltudinal positions as there are vertical slides on the magazine.
In operation, as the boxes shift to bring the several shuttles into action 01 at a time the chain 47 will move, either exerting a pull on the rod 21 against the action of spring 41 or permitting said spring ii to move the rod 21 to the right, depending upon the sequence in which the shuttles become active. The spring 41 will act at all times to keep the chain 47 taut and will keep the fingers 24 accurately positioned with respect to the lugs 15 and 16.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a very simple means for yieldingly controlling the position of the color slide rod 21, involving merely an extension of said rod to have located therearound a spring tending to move the rod forwardly. This eliminates the use of the bell crank lever customarily employed and set forth in the aforesaid patent to Ryon. It will further be seen that one of the bearings through which the rod 21 extends serves as an anchor for the forward end of the sprin Having thus described my invention it will be seen that changes and modifications may be made therein by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention and I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed, but What I claim is:
1. In a multicolor Weft replenishing mechanism, an angularly and longitudinally movable color slide, a rod forming part of said color slide, an extension on said rod extended rearwardly and having a perforation therein, a bearing through which the rod passes, and a tension spring surrounding the extension of the rod and having the rear end thereof passing through the perforation and having the forward end attached to the bearing, said spring tending normally to move the rod yieldingly in one direction.
2. In a multicolor weft replenishing mechanism, an angularly and longitudinally movable color slide, a rod forming part of said color slide, a bearing for the rod, the rod being extended rearwardly behind the bearin and a tension spring surrounding the exten ed part of the rod and having the rear end operatively connected to the rod and tending to move the'latter forwardly, the forward end of the spring being passed around the bearing and also that portion of the rod lying in front of the bearing to anchor said forward end to the spring.
In a multicolor weft replenishing mechanism, an angularly and longitudinally movable color slide, a rod forming part of said color slide, said rod having a perforation therein, a bearing through which the rod passes, and a spring havin a part to enter the perforation and having another part attached to the bearing, said spring tending normally to move the rod yieldingly in one direction.
