BASE TO HOLD NOZZLES AND SUPPLY PIPES Filed Sept. 20, 1928 .Z'nvenfar Frank I? Buck/e1):

FRANK r. BUcKnEI or LosANGELEsQcALIFoRNIA I'BASE ro norm nozztns'hnn stam ns Application filed September 1928. Serial hTo. 307,091.
This invention relates to a nozzle or bit construction designed to be used in bottle washing machines and the like. Itmay be considered as an improvement to be incorporated in the construction disclosed in my pending application entitled Bottle washing In bottle washing machines as disclosed in my pending applicationthe bottles are carried in an inverted positionon a rotary carrier and are consecutively caused to temporarily stop at certain stations while they undergo various cleaning and washing operations. Nozzles conveying soap solutions, disinfectants and rinse water, discharge these fluids. upwardly into the bottles and it is highly essential that the nozzle be properly 1 arranged so that it will discharge its stream centrally of the bottle. By virtue of the fact that various solutions are discharged from the nozzles the nozzles must have their supply pipes disassembled or removed therefrom for cleaning purposes. It is an object of this invention to provide a construction wherein the nozzles are: supported on permanently and stationarily mounted'bases which have the supply pipes removably connected thereto so that itis possible to remove the supply pipes for cleaning purposes without disturbing the nozzles and throwing them out of adjustment.
It is another object of this invention t provide a base for nozzles which is so con-' structed that the base may be ofuniform construction and will permit fluid to be supplied to. the interior of-onefof the bases and conveyed therefrom to its nozzle and also distributed to adjacent nozzle bases.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will be made manifest in the following detailed description and specifically pointed out in the appended claim, reference is had to the accompanying drawings for an illustrative embodiment of the invention wherein: I
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a plurality of nozzle bases on which nozzles are mounted and illustrating the laterally extending distributing pipe as applied thereto.
Fig.1 2 is'av-iew in side'elevation of the construction shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section through one'of the nozzle bases.- Y i Fig. 4 is a view in side elevationf'of the,
nozzle base disclosedin Fig. 3.
Referring to the accompanying drawings wherein similar reference characters designate similar parts throughout the nozzle base has anupperinternallythreaded openingl formed therein into which is screwedanozzle' 12 In the bottomof the nozzle base there is formed a threaded opening'2. The threaded opening 2 need not be formed in all of the'noz zle bases but for the sake of uniformity it is present in all 'of them so that all of thenozzlefb'ases may be of uniform construction." The opening, Qis designed to re ceive a supply' pipe l'conveying fluid to the interior 8 of the nozzle base. J'The nozzle adaptedgto be caused to registenwith the openings 4. The laterallyextending distributing pipe 10 is held in position in the;;recess 5 by means of saddles 7 which have semi-cylindrical recesses formed therein and which are fastened to the nozzle bases by the bolts 9 extending through apertures 6 in the saddles. The ends of the distributing pipe 10 are closed by means of caps 11 but if desired one ofthe caps 11 may be removed and fluid to be discharged through the nozzles can be supplied through the end of the distributing pipe 10. In this event the opening2 in the nozzle base which has the supply pipe 14 leading thereto is also closed by a plug. The nozzle bases are all rigidly and permanently fastened to the supporting structure indicated at 13.
In operation when the construction is arioa ranged in the manner shown fluid is sup plied to the nozzle base through the supply pipe 14, it entering the chamber 3 and is discharged through the nozzle on top of the nozzle base. Some of the fluid passes out through the opening 4 into the distributing pipe 10 from which it passes to the chamber 3 in adjacent nozzle bases and is discharged therefrom through the nozzles thereon. lVhenever it is necessary to clean the distributing pipe 10 and the interiors'of the nozzle bases the saddles 7 can be easily and quickly removed so as to remove the distributing pipe 10. Such removal of the distributing pipe in no way disturbs the nozzle bases and consequently the nozzles will remain in their adjusted positions so that the streams issuing therefrom will be discharged upwardly in the centers of the bottles moving thereover while the bottles are temporarily stopped at their various stations. After the distributing pipe 10 is cleaned it may be re-applied easily and quickly without disturbing the nozzle bases or nozzles.
Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as defined by the appended claim.
I claim:
' In a bottle washing machine or the like, a plurality of nozzle bases rigidly secured to a supporting structure having hollow interiors, nozzles mounted on said bases and in communication with said interiors, one of said nozzle bases having a supply pipe supplying fluid to its interior, a distributing pipe det-achably fastened to the sides of the nozzle bases, said distributing pipe being in communication with the interior of the mentioned nozzle base to receive fluid therefrom and convey it to the interior of theadjacent nozzle bases, whereby the distributing pipe may be detached from the nozzle bases, cleaned'and replaced without disturbing the positions of the nozzles.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
FRANK P. BUCKLEIN.
