This invention relates to covers for porca lain, marble, or vitreous coated plumbing fixtures, and more particularly to coverings that are adapted to be temporarily applied to the fixtures for protecting the same While the building in which they are tol be employed is under construction. Many of these fixtures are installed prior to the completion of the plastering or tile-setting in the room, and some times even before the partitions are fixed in position. Under such conditions the fixtures are likely to become damaged by the workmen; accordingly, it is desirable that some form of covering be provided to prevent such injury.

The primaryobject of this invention is to provide an improved form of protective covering with means to prevent its unauthorv ized removal from the fixture thus insuring the latter against willful abuse, neglect or carelessness during construction work. An-

other object is to produce` :g1 improved protective covering of the character mentioned, designed and arranged for protecting both the inner surfaces and the laterally exposed external .surfaces of the fixture. further object is to produce an improved covering that is simple in construction, light, strong and durable, and capable of being used over and over again. It consists in certain features and elements of construction as herein shown and described, and as indicated by the claims.

shown in Figures l and 2, is a box-like structure having a front panel, 37, and connected vertical side walls, 3S, and a horizontally ex tending top portion, 39. The top portion has at its lower edge a rigid downwardly' depending front flange, 49, overlapping the front of the sink and rigid end flanges, 50, connected thereto; said flanges 49 and 50 being -dimensioned to extend slightly below the lower edge of the fixture.

By reason of the end fianges, 50,V abutting against'the vertical wall, the horizontal top portion, 48, assists in supporting the box-like covering in position on the fixture; andto prevent forward movement of the cover of the fixture, I provide a pair of downwardly depending clips, 51, on the under side of the inclined top portion, 47, positioned for engaging the inner vertical surface of the cavity fi. Ll d of the sink fixture, as may be seen in Figure 5.

The covering is locked to the fixture to preclude unauthorized removal by means consisting of a pair of rigid bars, 52, each formed ico with an eye at one end engaged with an eye, 53, on the outside of the end flange, 50, adjacent its lower edge. Thence the bar extends` horizontally in oblique direction under the lower edges of the front and end walls of the fixture. T he opposite end of each of the bars, 52, is flattened to form an eye portion which is insertable through an eye or staple, 54, secured on the front flange, 49, of the cover; a locking bar, 55, is formed with a hooked end, 5G, which engages one of the staples, 5a, under the eye of the bar, 52, while the opposite end of the bar, 55, has a flattened eye portion which may be lapped under the fiattened eye of the other bar, 52, on the other staple, 54.-, and retained by suitable padlock, 55a. The bars, 52, are also provided with upwardly extending lugs or fingers, 52a, positioned for engaging' the inner surface of the front wall of the fixture to supplement the stops, 5i, in preventing` its removal forwardly.

It will be understood that in all ofthe protective coverings for the various fixtures illustrated in Figures l to 5, the interior surfaces of the coverings are lined with suitable material such as felt so as te protect the finished surface of the fixtures against injury by abrasion such as might occur by placing on or removingthe covering from the fixture, or due to the limited amount of movement even when it is locked in place thereon.

In combination with a plumbing fixture including a body having` an upwardly open cavity and laterally exposed surfaces extending in different directions from each other, a protective cover including a main portion dimensioned to serve as a closure for the cavity. and rigid depending fianges adapted to enclose the lateral surfaces, a plurality of rigid obliquely disposed tie members connected at their ends to said flanges in a. manner to engage a portion of the lower edge of the fixture, and locking means arranged to preclude unauthorized removal of the cover.

In combination with an upright support, a plumbing fixture mounted adjacent said support, including an upwardly open cavity and laterally exposed surfaces, a protective cover including a main section dimensionecL so serve as a closure for the cavity and having` one edge Vterminating adjacent lld the upright support, rigid depending iianges connected to the main cover section and arranged to enclose the laterally exposed surfaces of said fixture, a depending lug secured to the under side of the cover and dimensioned for engaging the inner surface of said cavity of the fixture forvpreventing lateral movement of the cover in the direction away Yfrom the upright support, and locking means lo connected to said flanges and arranged for precludmg unauthorized removal of the cover. v

In combination with an upright support, a plumbing fixture mounted adjacent said support, including anupwardly open cavity and a depending skirt having laterally exposed surfaces extending in different directions from each other, a protective cover including a main section dimensioned to serve as a closure for the cavity, having one edge terminating adjacent said upright support, andrigid dependingend fianges connected to said main cover section having one edge thereof terminating adjacent said support, and a rigid depending side flange connected to said main cover section and connected at its ends to said end anges, means engaging the inner surface of the cavity ofl the fixture for preventing lateral movement of the cover in the direction away from the upright support, a pair of rigid obliquely disposed tie members each connected at oneY end to one of the end flanges and their opposite ends to said side flange, said tie members being disposed for engaging a portion of the lower edge of said skirt or" the fixture for preventing movement of said cover in an upwardly direction, and locking means connected to said last mentioned ends of the tie G members for precluding unauthorized removal of the cover.
