IMPROVEMENT IN WASHING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,572, dated June 13, 1876; application filed March 18, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. WEST, of
Magnolia, in the county of Putnam, and State so that the rubber, while permanently con nected to the hand-lever, may readily aecom modate itself to the work to bear with equal force upon it at all points and under all circumstances.
In the annexed drawings, Figure l is a transverse section of my improved washing-machine. Fig. 2 is a perspective view thereof.
The same letters of reference are used in both figures in the designation. of identical parts.
A refers to the suds'box, made of rectangu- 1ar form, and supported on legs to raise it to a convenient height. The corrugated Washboard 0 rests upon cleats in the suds-box, forming, as it were, a false bottom, with perforations at each end for communication with the space underneath it. The wash board rests loosely on the cleats, so that itmay be placed in an inclined position in the suds-box and used as an ordinary wash-board in case portions of the clothes require hand-Washing. The combination, substantially as specified, of the rubber, the hand-lever, and the intermediate cross-head d and swivel g, connected and operating as stated.
