The invention relates to a bathing shoe with heel, intended particularly for use by Women.

The object of this invention is to provide 5 a shoe of the `kind stated, in which the sole and the heel are made from one piece of cork which is covered on all sides with fabric, the toe and heel stifeners (or counters) being also made of cork sewn into or embedded in the shoe upper. The latter is made of fabric, and thus easily and securely fastened to the sole, while the tread-surfaces are provided with a-layer of webbing.

` This klnd of bathing shoe has the advan tage of not altering in the water. Another advantage is that in consequence of its light weight it will not hinder swimming. A still further advantage is that it protects the foot from the hot and sandy beach.

The subject of the invention is illustrated by the accompanying drawing, of which Fig. 1 shows the finished shoe; Fig. 2 the sole with heel; Fig. 3 the toe-piece; Fig. 4 the heel-piece or counter, Figs. 5 and 6 the layers on the sole and on the heel, and Fig. 7, a section through the whole shoe.

According to the invention, the lower part of the shoe i. e., the sole and heel, is produced from one piece of cork a. This cork piecel is entirely covered, (viz., top, bottom and sides) with fabric d, e. This fabric covering serves to facilitate the fastening of the covered sole and' heel to the shoe upper f, which is also fabric covered. The fabric ma be secured by insoluble adhesive matter or y sewing or otherwise. In order that the shape of the upper may be preserved, a toecap b and a heel-cap (or counter c, comosed also of cork, are inserted an /or sewn 1n, between a double thickness of the fabric of the upper.

To prevent the sole and heel from wearing out too quickly, the tread-surfaces are protected by a layer of webbing g, h. The sole and heel can be made from one or more pieces of cork or moulded or artificial cork, whilst the tread surfaces may be covered with rubber. f

I claim: f

1. A bathing shoe, comprising in combina tion a sole andheel formed asa unit in cork, a cover of fabric entirely surrounding the same, a fabric upper, a cork toe stiffener and a cork heel stiffener, each sewn into or embedded in the upper at the toe and heel end respectively and means for uniting said upper and said sole and heel.

2. A bathing shoe, comprising in combination a sole and heel formed as a unit in cork, a cover of fabric entirely surrounding the same, a fabric upper, a cork toe stifi'ener and a cork heel stiifener, each sewn into or embedded in the upperat the toe and heel end respectively, a layer of webbing or rubber upon the tread surfaces of said sole and heel, and means for uniting the latter to the upper.

A bathing shoe, comprising in combination a sole and heel formed from one or more pieces of cork or moulded (artificial) cork, a cover of fabric entirely surrounding the same, a fabric upper, a cork toe stiffener and a cork heel stifener, each sewn into or embedded in the upper at the toe and heel end respectively, and means for uniting said upper and said sole and heel.

4. A bathing shoe, comprising in combination a sole and heel formed from one or more pieces of cork or moulded (artificial) cork, a cover of fabric entirely surrounding the same, a fabric upper, a cork toe stifener and a cork heel stiffener, each sewn into or cmbedded in the upper at the toe and heel end respectively, and a covering of rubber upon the tread surfaces, and means for uniting said upper and said sole and heel.
