Description
Dec. 16, 1930. s. o. HUFF'MAN LEADER CARRIER Filed March 19. 1929 gmwoz 1S. Hna/ifm@ 72 aunq Patented Dec. 16, 1930 PATENT `FFICE l SHERMAN O. HUFFMAN, F DUQUESNE, PENNSYLVANIA LEADER CARRIER Application Ied March 19, 1929. i Serial No. 348,267.
This invention relates to the class of receptacles and pertains particularly to an improved type of fly and leader carrier for the use of fishermen. l
The primary object of the present'invention is to provide a leader carrier of a type. designed to keep moist over a long period of time so that gut leaders may be kept soft and pliable.
20 Another object of the invention is to provide a leader carryingreceptacle which may be kept moist for a long period and which may, at the same time, be conveniently carried in the pocket without danger of the moisture from the receptacle being absorbed by the clothing of the carrier.
Still another object of the invention is to` provide a leader carrier designed to provide an air sack which may be filled withair when the receptacle is in use and which will act to prevent the receptacle from sinking in the event that it falls into the water.
The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part of the present invention with the understanding, however, that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawing but may be changed or modified so long as such changes or modiiications mark no material. departure from the salient` features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the leader carrier embodying the present invention showing the inner receptacle thereof partly withdrawn from the waterproof outer receptacle.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken upon the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view in cross section of the receptacle taken upon the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail wherein like numerals of reference indicate' corresponding part-s throughout the several views, the numeral 1 indicates generally the inner receptacle while the numeral 2 indicates generally the outer receptacle. The inner receptacle 1 is in the form of a two compartment purse .which has a mouth frame 3 made up of a centralunit and two side or outer units indicated by the numerals 4 and 5 respectively which units are of substantially U shaped formation and have their ends hingedly connected together as indicated at 6. The units 4 and 5, as shown, are designed to be arranged in side by side relation and to each of thepivot pins 6'of the top frame is pivotally attached the free end of one side leg of a lower upright U shaped frame 7 l g Withinand between the frames 3 and 7 is a bag 8; formed of chamois skin, the bag being centrally divided by a wall of the same Inaterial as indicated at 9 to form the two compartments or pockets 10. As shown, the top edges of the side walls of the bag are eachv Y Y connected to one ofthe outer frames 5 while the top edge of the central wall 9 is connected to the frame 4 and in addition is connected at its side and bottom edges to the edge and bottom walls of the bag. The bag 8 at its sides and bottom may be secured in any suitable manner to the outer frame 7.
The receptacle 2 whichis preferably of rubber or rubberized material is in the form of an open mouthed pouch into the mouth of which the purse or inner receptacle 1 may be eX- tended, as shown in Figures'l and 2. One side wall of the outer receptacle orpouch 2 is provided with an air bag 11 through the wall of which a suitable valve 12 opens by means of which air may be introduced into the bag as desired.
The opposite wall of the pouch 2 has secured thereto a pocket 13 the top of which is normally open and may be covered by the flap 14 secured to the side wall of the pouch adjacent the top and adapted to be secured adjacent its lower end or edge by a suitable fastener, such for example, the glove snap 15.
By actual test it has been found that with a leader receptacle constructed in accordance with this invention the chamois walls of the pocket 8 when moistened will retain the moisture over a long period of time thereby los making it unnecessary to frequently reWet the leaders While they are being carried upon a fishing expedition. The leaders are easily obtainable when Wanted and the receptacle as a Whole is safe from loss inthe event that it is accidentally dropped into the Water because of the air bag Il associatedwith the pouch 2.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim is 1. A fishermans leader carrier comprising a purse consisting of a frame and a bag of moisture retaining material secured therein,l
a Water proof pouch designed to receive the purse, and an air bag formingv a part ofV said pouch to make the same non-sinkable.
2. A fishermans leader carrying receptacle comprising a bag of moisture retaining material, a rigid frame surrounding the .bag about the edges thereof, said bag having a mouth, means forming a part-oi-I said iframe y for securelyv closing the mouth, and a Water proof receptacle designed to Vreceive* said frame and baO. f
3. A ishermans leader carrier comprising a purse having a frame and a bag of chamois skin, said bag having a mouth and said frame being formed to provide means for securing the bag mouth closed, and a pouch of Water proof material designed to receive said purse.
4. A ishermans leader carrier comprising a purse having aframe and a bag of chamois skin, said bag having a mouth and said frame being formed to provide means `for securing the bag mouth closed, a pouch of Water proof material designed to receive said purse, and
' said pouch having an airbag connected thereto to make the carrier non-sinkable.
5. A ishermans leader carrier, comprising a purse consisting of a frame and a bag of moisture retaining material secured therein, a Water-proof punch designed to receive the purse, and means connected to the structure for making the same non-sinkable.
6. A fishermans leader carrier, comprising a purse consisting of a frame and a bag of moisture retaining material secured therein, a water-proof pouch designed to receive the purse, and means carried by the pouch for making the carrier non-sinkable.
7. A ishermans leader carrier, comprisinga purse consisting of a frame and a bag of moisture retaining material secured therein, and a Water-proof pouch designed to receive the purse.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afx my signature.
SHERMAN O. HUFFMAN'.
