This invention relates to a method and apparatus for preparing molds .for castlng products of variouskinds, more especlally flywheels.
WVith the use of sandslinger or other machines serving for the preparing of molds in the casting industry the objection is often experienced that the removal of the sand supply device very greatly fatigues the operator serving the machine and that the frequent adjustments of that supply devlce over the molding boxes or such like requlres much time.
The object of the invention is to entirely eliminate this objection and to obtain the great advantage that from 1 to times larger molding boxes or similar devlces are capable of being filled than with the sandslinger or similar machines that are used without the device, which forms the subject of this invention, whilst to obtain the further advantage that the sand is dlstrlbuted much more evenly in the mold boxes, since this influences the good finish of the castings. The accompanying drawings illustrate one constructional example of the device according to the invention, and in which Figure 1 is a part section and a part elevation of the entire device. 0 Figure 2 shows a detail in half section.
Figure 3 is a reverse plan view of said detail. The device forming the subject of the in vention consists of a pedestal 1 in which bear- 1 ing balls 3 are inserted in the raceway 2, so
that the upper-structure of the device resting upon these balls can be turned as required.
The circular bedplate 4 which therefore rests with the central boss 5 and the corresponding raceway 6 upon the balls 3 is rotatable. Attached to the'bedplate' l by bolts 8 are a number of supports 7 and these are replaceable by other supports of various lengths. These supports 7 may be attached in any number and be placed anywhere upon the plate 1, and they carry on their upper ends by means of the bolts 9 a pattern plate 10.
In the accompanying drawings, the molding plate has a peculiar construction which is hereinafter described. The machine is now rotated in any suitable way so that the mold box and pattern plate revolve relatively to the'sand-supplying means and while the sand is being fed into the mold box. The operator serving the machine may thus remain in his place and only need adjust the sand supply device over one line andonly once from the centre to the edge of the mold box, owing to which, with a definite length of the sand outflow device of the sandslinger or similar machine, much larger articles can be molded while, in addition, work can be performed much more quickly.
It is clear that the adjustable arrangement given by way of example in the accompanying drawings -and numbered 1715--19 2O1 l need not always be introduced upon rotating table (4), that adjustable arrangement can also beconstructed upon a fixed foundation. Itmay also be usedfor other castings than exclusively for flywheels.
. By the above described method and machine fine and-sharp castings are obtained which are absolutelythe vequivalent of each other, a thing that is extremely desirable for production en m'asse.
Having now described our invention, what we claim as new and desireto secure by Letters Patent is 1. A molding apparatus for the purpose described comprising in combination a pattern plate, a molding box carried thereon, a pattern block carried on a stem concentric with the pattern block, a turntable supporting the pattern plate, molding box and central stem, means forrotating the turntable, and means for rotating the centre stem to adjust the pattern block relatively to the pattern plate to vary the depth of the mold. 1 2. Molding apparatus as claimed in claim 1, in which vone part of the pattern plate comprises a hollow annular casing depending therefrom, and the other part is an annular rib engaging said hollow casing and adjustably carried on a centre stem.
