The impression cylinders 2 and 3 are connected for synchronous action, through the registering gear 34 which is adjustable along a plane at right angles to the plane of movement of the impression cylinders; the shaft 35 of the registering gear being movable along alined vertical slots 36 in brackets 37 carried by the main frame, a nut 38 serving to lock the registering gear in its adjusted position.
The impression cylinder 2 is shown as moved in a horizontal plane into position to simultaneously coact with its two change form cylinders by the following means:
A hand wheel 39 has its stud shaft 40 provided with a gear connection 41, 42, 43 with a cross shaft 44 having a worm and gear connection 45, 46 at each side of the frame with a screw shaft 47 engaging the bearing 6 which is slidable along a guideway 48. A set screw 49 is arranged in position to engage the bearing 6 and lock it in its adjusted position.
The impression cylinder 3 is shown as moved inte position to 4simultaneously eoact with its twochange form cylinders by the following means:
A handle 50 has its stud shaft 5l provided with a gear connection 52, 53, 54 with a cross shaft 55 having a worm and gear connection 56, 57 at each side of the frame with a screw shaft 58 which engages the bearing 7 slidable along the guideway 59. An adjusting screw 60 is arranged in position to engage the bearing 7 and lock it in its adjusted position.
A change gear drive is provided for the impression and changeform cylinders, which change gear drive is shown in the accompanying drawings as including in each form, a change gear of the same diameter asthe selected change form cylinders. The rocking support for the change gear is denoted by 6l and it carries a stud shaft 62. This L'stud shaft serves in FiO. l as a mountino' for the change gear 63 and in Fig. 2 as a mountingfor the change gear 64. Y
The means which I have shown for rocking the supports 6l to bring the selected change gear into its driving connection with the impression cylinder gear 65 is shown as a hand wheel 66 having its cross shaft 67 connected at each side of the machine through bevel gears 68, 69 with a worm shaft 70 having a worm 7l meshing with a gear segment 72 carried by the rocking support 6l.
The web is shown as passing aroundpsuitable rollers 7 3, 74 to and around the impression cylinder 3 and from thence around a suitable roller to and around the impression cylinder 2. From thence the web passes around suitable rollers 76, 77, to the delivery point.
The drive for either the change gear 63 or the change gear 64 is shown as a gear 78 ou the shaft 79 which meshes with a gear 80 on the shaft 8l. A gear 82 on this shaft Sl meshes with a gear 83 on the stud shaft 62.
The rocking support at each side of the machine may be locked in its adjusted position by means of a bolt 84 projecting through an elongated slot 85; a locking nut 86 being provided for said bolt.
In the accompanying drawings the web is printed in four colors and is shown as passing around both of the impression cylinders 2 and 3 to be printed upon by the four change form cylinders. However, it will be seen that the web may be printed in two colors only by passing it around either the impression cylinder 2 or the impression cylinder 3 to be printed upon by the change form cylinders coaeting with the selected impression cylinder.
It is to be understood that when the form cylinders of one diameter are changed for form cylinders of another diameter, the gears which drive the impression cylinders and through them the form cylinders, are also correspondingly changed.
It is evident that various changes may be resorted to in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, hence I do not intend to be limited to the particular embodiment herein shown and described, `but what I claim is:
l. In a multi-color rotary web printing press, two impression cylinders, each adjustable for coaction with change form cylinders of the same diameter selected from change form cylinders of different corresponding diameters, means for moving the impression cylinders in opposite directions into positions to eoact with their respective selected change form cylinders and adjustable means connecting the impresion cylinders for synchronous action.
2. `In a multi-,color rotary web printing press,.two impression cylinders, each adjustable for coaction with change form cylinders of the same diameter selected from change form cylinders of different corresponding diameters, means for moving the impression cylinders in opposite directions linto positions tocoact with their respective selected change form cylinders, impression cylinder gears, and an adjustable registering gear engaging both impression cylinder gears.
