It isthe object of my inventionto produce form illustrated. in Fig. 1 in order that the .an adjustable l shore of the type commonly guide 21 may slidepast them; l a l H used for supporting forms in concretebuild- F or preventing the upper shore-part from l ying construction. A further object of my insliding downward on the pipe 19, I provide a vention is to produce such ashore which'will pair of releasable ratchet dogs 25 pivotally 55 be exceedingly strong and positive in oper'amounted in a head26 which is attached to the tion. A v j cap 18. The surfaces of the dog 25 which I accomplish the above: objects by conengage the pipe 19ers toothed or otherwise. I ,structing my shoreof two relatively slida'ble roughened] and" are curved to fit such pipe. j partsythe upper one ofwhichis composed'of Inaddition, these surfaces are curvedecceir so 7 twotransversely spaced members adaptedto. trically to theaxes ofpivotalmounting of the receive between them thelower shore part, dogs so that theywill grip the pipe 19 and and I provide means for holding such' parts prevent lowering of the upper shore-part f together inan'y relative position of adjust while permitting-free upward movement of j 5 ment. i" I Q7 s it. The springs 27acting between the dogs (55 The accompanying drawings illustrate my and the head 26 tend to force the dogsinto invention: Fig. 1 is a'iront elevation of my engagement with the pipe 19. building shore Fig. 2is a. side elevation of The head-26;isp*rovided with a centrally j the shore illustrated in Fig.1; Figs."3 and f1 located circularhpwardextension 30.which 20 are horizontal sections'on thetlines 3'-3 and is slidably receivedfwithin the central open- To 14t respectively of Fig.1 Figs. 5 to 7- incluing inthe cap 18. and which is provided with sive are perspective views illustrating details an axial holeforthe reception of the pipe of eonstructiomFigs. 8 and 9'are fragmental 19. Toiietain it in place in the cap 18, the front elevations on an enlarged scale show upward extension is provided with several ing my shore in two positions of adjustment; cars 31 whichmay be bent over after the 75 f Fig. 10 is a fragmental central section upward extension 30 is iniplace in the central through the locking mechanism; and Figs. 11 opening .ofthe cap 18,1asgis. clear from F to 13 inclusive are horizontal sections onthe' 11. ,tively slidable parts,-the upper one of which ative rotation ofsuchcap and thejhead26. is formed of twolaterally spaced members :Beforethehead 26is'attachedto the cap 15 whichmay conveniently be of wood. The 18, a rotatable collar 33 is placed over the upperends of the members 15 are joined to a upwardjextension 30, the keys'32 being short cross piece 16, the junction between such enoughso that theywillnot interfere with 85 cross piece and the members 15 preferably therotation of such collar when it is inplace. being reinforcedby suitable brackets 17 The The collar 33 is provided with a peripheral lower ends of the members 15 enter and are series (if-upwardlyextending teeth '34 adaptsecured to a cap 18 provided with a central ed to mate with a corresponding series of opening adapted to receive the lower shoreteeth es"ext nding downwardly from the 1 part 19 which extends through suchopening lowersurface of'the cap 18. The collar 33 is and upward between the members 15. The rotatablefonthe upward extension 30 froma shore-part 19 is conveniently formed of pipe position in which the upper surfaces of the I tothe lower end of which is attached a base teeth 3 1 abut against the lower surfaces of 20 and to the upper end of which is affixed a the teeth 3510' a position in whichthe teeth guide 21 adapted to engage the members 15. 35 drop into the spaces between the teeth 34.. Between the cross piece 16 and the cap 18 The twopositions o'f the collar33 are illus' may be placed one or more braces '22 which trated in jFigsg-8 and9. Pivotally mounted are fixed to the members 15 to strengthen betweenears 36 on theco-llar33 is apawl the construction. These braces22 are of the 37, adapted to drop into an opening- 38 in we the head 26 to prevent rotation of the collar when the teeth 34- abut against the teeth 35. If desired, the collar 33 may be provided with one or more laterally projecting fingers 39 to aid. in its rotation.
The means employed for extending my shore comprise a jaw 40, adapted to straddlethe pipe 19, and connected by a link ll to a raising lever the end of which is adapted to eng ge a. lip 43 on the head 26. It will be evident that if the outer end of the lever 12 is depressed. the jaw 4:0 will be tilted on the pipe 19 and vill firmly grip such pipe. Continued lowering of the outer end of the lever 42 will raise the upper shore-part which will be prevented from dropping by the action of the d 25. The raising lever illustrated and d s ribed above is only one form of lever that can be used with my shore. .J'inother form is shown in my prior Patent No. 1,401,172, i ed December 27, 1921.
l i hcn it is desired to use my shore, the collar 33 is roated to the position shown in Fig. 8 with the teeth 3% abutting the teeth 35. The shore is raised to the desired position by means of the raising lever 42 above described, the dogs 25 preventing the upper shore-part from dropping. When it is desired to remove the shore, the collar 33 is rotated to the position shown in Aig. 9 to permit the upper short-part to drop a short distance. it slight raising of the upper shorepart wi l now permit the dogs 25 to be released, whereupon the shore may be collapsed.
I claim as my invention:
1. An adjustable shore comprising an upper partand a lower part, said upper part being formed of two laterally spaced members provided at their lower ends with a cap, said cap being provided with a central opening, a head including an upward extension slidably received within the opening in said cap, means on said head for locking it to said lower shore-part, and means for holding said head in different longitudinal positions relative to said upper shore-part.
2. An adjustable shore comprising an upper part and a lower part, said upper part being formed of two laterally spaced members provided at their lower ends with a cap,
said cap being provided with a central opening, a head including an upward extension slidably received within the opening in said cap, means on said head for looking it to said lower shore-part, a collar rotatable on the upward extension of said head, said collar being provided with a circumferential series of upwardly projecting teeth, and a seriesrot teeth integral with said cap and projecting downwardly therefrom to engage the teeth on said collar.
3. An adjustable shore comprising an upper-part and a lower-part, said upper-part being formed of two laterally spaced members provided at their lower ends with a cap,
said cap being provided with a central opening, a head including an upward extension slidably received within the opening in said cap, means on said head for locking it to said lower shore-part, a collar rotatable on the upward extension of said head, said collar being provided with a circumferential series of upwardly projecting teeth, a series of teeth integral with said cap and projecting downwardly therefrom to engage the teeth on said collar, means preventing relative rotation between said cap and head, and controllable means carried by the collar and coacting with the head for preventing rotation of said collar when its teeth abut against the teeth of said cap.
4. An adjustable shore comprising an upper-part and'a lower-part, said upper-part being formed of two laterally spaced members provided at their lower ends with a cap,
said cap being provided with a central opening therethrough, a guide on the upper end of said lower shore-part arranged to engage atleast one of said members, said lower shorepart anchored with the guide and extending downwardly through said central opening,
and means carried by said cap below saidv cap and clear of the upper part to engage said lower part for locking the two shore-parts together to prevent relative movement in one direction.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at Indianapolis, Indiana, this 18th day of July, A. one thousand nine hundred and twenty-five.
