IMPROVEMENT IN OPERATING THE TEMPEITING-WHEELS 0F CLAY-FITS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178, 126, dated May 30, 1876; application filed I May 2, 1876.
' object we attain in the manner which we will now proceed to describe, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of a clay-tempering pit with our improvement, and Fig. 2 a verti: cal section of the same, drawn to an enlarged scale.
A is the pit, and B the usual radial arm, adapted to a pin, a, on a central standard in the pit, and carrying the wheel D, the rotation of which in the pit causes the tempering of the clay in the usual manner.
The rotation of the radial arm and its wheel is usually eli'ected either by means of horse power appliedto the outer end of the arm, or by means of a suitable gearing driven by a stationary engine properly located.
There are well-known objections to these plans, which we overcome in the following manner: Around the edge of the pit we lay a circular track, b, to which is adapted a locoallel axles will serve the desired purpose it the track be sufficiently large in diameter, or a three-wheeled locomotive may be used.
We claim as our invention- The combination of a clay or other like mill, having a radial arm, B, a circular track, and a locomotive adapted to the track and constructed for attachment to the arm, all substantially as set forth.
