Patented Nov. 4, 1930 UNITED. s'TArEis cHARLEsw. STRONG, JOE-PORTLAND, ore-neon GOLF-BALL WASHER Application filed August e1, 1927, serial No. 216,622. Renewed September '22, 1930.
primarily of a liquid holding container a multiple of bristle carrying elements vertically disposed within the container; means adapted to maintain the bristle carrying mem- V bers in their relative positions; means forimparting a rotating movement to each of the bristle carrying elements and means for the removal of the ball after the same has been washed, from the device.
The primary object'of my new and im-; proved golf ball washer, consists in provid-- ing a simple and eficient device to be placed upon the tee boxes located on the tees of golf courses, the same being adapted to being manipulated by the golf player in the cleaning of theballs during the course of play. 7
A further object of my invention consists in providing a device that is simple in its operation, efiicient in the results that it obtains, in the cleaning of the balls from de posits upon the outer surface thereof, one that may be operated over relatively long periods by people inexperienced with mechanical devices and one that will not easily get out of order and repair.
A still further object of my device consists in providing a device for the washing of golf balls that will quickly clean the ball and after the same has been cleaned to provide simple means for the removal of the cleansed ball from the device.
With these and incidental objects in view,
the invention consists in certain novel features and improved devices, positioned upon a stand to maintain the same.
Fig. 2 is a top, plan view, of the assembled device.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal, sectional view, the
same being taken on line 33 of Fig. 2, look ing in the direction indicated.
Fig. 4 a horizontal, sectional view, the
same, being taken on line of Fig. '3, lookingiin the direction indicated. p Fig.'5fis an inverted, sectional, plan view, the same being taken on line 55 of Fig. 3, looking inthe direction indicated."
Like reference characters refer to like parts throughout the several views- I a I preferably form mydevice of a liquid holding bodyl, preferably made of sheet materialf'having a bottom 2, dispose'dupon the underside thereof. A closure 3"forms the- "top andv is adapted to be removed from the body 1. The closure 3 is provided with a central opening- 3A of suflicientwidth to admitofa golf ball to pass therethro'ugh. A plurality of bristle'elements 4', 5 and 6 are verticallydisposjed within the device and are concentrically arranged relative to the 'center of the device. Thelower end of each bristle element is j ourn aled within the base; I, and-theu'pper, end thereof is journaled in the closure 3. v The base 7 and the closure 3 "are secured: together by suitable struct-ural elements. 8,9 and. 10', depending from the 010- sure. Since the bristle carrying elements ar e subj eat to wear and disintegration, due to the large amount of work to bedoneby them, it is necessary toreplace the bristle, elements from timeto time, and to accomplish'thisresult, the base 7 is removably secured to the lower end of the structural 61611161113518, 9 and 10; The base 7' is. secured relative to the structural elements by elements ll'and' 12 which are preferably screws'or the like, and, are not shown in *detaiL] Disposed upon the lower end of each "of the central shaftsof the bristle elements arecoacting gears 13, 14 and 1 5, and a crank 16 is remov-ably secured to the upper end of one of the bristle elements, the
same is secured to the central shaft 17 of said bristle element, by a collar 18, the same being journaled within'a suitable bearing 19, dis
posed upon the closure '3'. "The crank 16 is I remo'vably secured tothe collar and is secured by any suitable'fastening means, as bya cotg ter key '20. As theshaftfl? is revolved, the gear 15 disposed upon thelowerendiof the shaft 17 and is also revolved, and since the gears 13, 14 andv 15 coactwith each'other, as
