SPEED-GOVERNOR. 1 .No.178.06 3. Patented-Ma 30,1876,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
JAMES M. KING, or WALNUT STATION, MINNESOTA.
JIMPROVEMENT IN SPEED-GOVERNORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,063, dated May 30, 1876; application filed April 10, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES M. KING, of Walnut Station, in the county of Redwood and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Speed-Governor, of which the fob lowing is a specification;
The object of my invention is to contrive a simple and practical regulator for the clearing apparatus of thrashing machines, to compensate fer the irregular motion of the horse power. It consists of a belt-tightening pulley mounted on a counterbalanced beam or other equivalent device, with an adjustable weight or other means for regulating the tension of the belt, and a slipping pulley or cover on the driving-pulley combined, the counterweighted tension device being to give the band sufficient tension to 'drive the blast apparatus, shoe, or other part of the clearing apparatus, and the slipping pulley or cover being to slip on the driving-pulley in case it runstoo fast.
The drawing is a side elevation of my improved apparatus.
A is the driving-pulley; B, the slipping-pulley or slipping-cover of the driving-pulley; O, the transmitting-band; D, the counter-balance tension-pulley, and E the pulley to be driven. Thetension-pulley D is, in this example, controlled by an adjusting-weight, G; but it may be actuated by other means, if preferred.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat- Thecombination of the slipping-cover B with the driving-pulley A, driven pulley E, and the belt 0, having a tension-regulator, D, substantially as specified.
JAS. M. KING.
