VANDERGOOK, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS,'ASSIGNORS TO VANDERCOOK & SONS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A PARTNERSHIP J 7 F-BISKET FRAME FOR USE IN connnerron.wiTHrnnv'rINe rnnssns Application filed May 31, 1927. semi No. .195,256..,
Our invention relates to frisket frames for use in connection with printing presses.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a simple, practical and advantageous construction of frisket frames.
Another object of the invention is to provide a practical and effective arrangement for holding the paper of the frame in proper position. 7
Another object of the invention is to. permit the paper to'be removed andthen replaced in exactly its former position.
Another object of the invention is to permit the printing element such as a cut to be accurately adjusted. in the press by means of the frisket frame.
In the accompanying drawings: Fig. 1 1s a plan view of arfrisket frame embodying our invention and part of a printing press co-operating therewith.
Fig. 2 1s a cross sectlon taken on line 22 in Flg. 1.
one side of the frame.
Referring to the drawings, we show a frisket frame 1, having a generally rectangular shape. It is provided with spring pivotal connections 2 well known in this type of device. In Figs. 2 and 3 the frame is shown upside down.
In accordance with our invention we pro-' vide a novel and advantageous arrangement" for use in connection with the paper or other material commonly used in connection with these frames, such paper being shown at 3- as extended across the frame.
In the arrangement shown herein for carrying out the invention, a pair of clamp bars 4L are provided, one on each side of the frame. These bars extend lengthwise of the frame a greater or less distance as desired,
but are of sufiicient length for the sheet of paper 3. Means are preferably provided for detachably connecting these bars l-4E with the sides ofthe frame, so that the paper 3' may be detachably held in position by said clamp bars, but may be removed and a new sheet or strip of paper put in place by decaching the bars from the frame and then again detachably connecting the same.
the frame 1 is provided with recesses or apertures 6 to receive pins 5. .Each pin t is preferably provided witha shoulder 7 at its farther end and this shoulder 7. is adaptfed to engage witha shoulder 8v on the frame 1 whereby a spring clip a'ction holding an end of the clamp bar detachably to the frame is provided. Each end of each bar being"- preferably provided with a spring clip ar- "rangement ofthisjlrind', eaclrbar my be readily attached to the frameand readily detached therefrom as desired.
Each bar 4 is also preferably wedded with other pins99 between its ends and ,these pins are adapted to fit into. recesses 1010 in the bar 1. These pins 9 aid in placing the bars in their proper positions.
and in holding them and the paper infposition, and in relocating. friskets which have been removed and filed away; when they are Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through barsH applied to the same, as a result of which the paper will beproperly held in position as shown inFigs'l and 2. Y The edges 3 may, be torn off by tearing them along the .edges of. bars' i. To remove the paper the clamp bars l- T i are removed, and
then. the paper removed. To apply new paper, the clamp bars may be removed and a-new' sheet "or strip of paper put in place andthen the clamp bars applied. The applicationand removal of the clamp bars is very easily and quickly accomplished and the manipulation of the paper as desired may be quickly done, I
If desired a frisket paper which has been used'maybe' removed and then replaced in exactlythe same position by applying the bars 4 and pins 9 thereon to the frisket so that the pins will occupy the same apertures in the frisketthereby insuring the frisket being located in the same position.
Furthermore the frislret may be used so as to aid or cause a printing element such as a cut, to be located in exactly the right place "in the printing press for color work or the like. This may be done by using more or less transparentpaper in the frisket and by employing an adjustable chase or plate base in the press. By this arrangement, a proof may be taken from one cut on the transparent frisket paper and then the cut may be changed and thechase or base adjusted so as to place the second cut in exactly the position of the first cut. this being done by causing the frisket proof to register with the new cut.
An adjustable chase or plate base or other device for holding printing elements of any suitable construction or arrangement may be employed. One advantageous arrangement for this purpose is shown in our co-pending application for devices for holding printing members in printing presses, Case No. 1, executed as of even date herewith and bearing Serial No. 194,267.
In Fig. 1 there is shown such an adjustable plate base 11 in connection with the frisket frame. The base 11 is shown partly in dotted lines, since it is below the frisket paper 3. This base is adjustable in accordance with the invention of said other application.
The base 11 is provided with adjusting screws 12-12 and 18 and spring controlled pins 1%14 and 15-15. By this arrangement bodily adjustment, horizontal, vertical and angular of base 11 may be secured so as to secure registration of proof 16 on frisket 3 with cut carried by the base 11.
It will be understood that changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
"What we claim is:
1. A frisket frame having side clamp bars and resilient means for detachably applying said bars to the frame.
2. A frisket frame having side clamp bars and attaching means therefor comprising spring clip devices on the clamp bars and apertures in the frame cooperating with said spring clip devices.
3. A frisket frame provided with side clamp bars having spring clip devices comprising shouldered pins, the frame having shouldered recesses into which said pins fit.
4. A frisket frame provided with side clamp bars having spring clip devices comprising shouldered pins, the frame having shouldered recesses into which said pins fit.
said bars also having other pins adapted to pass through the paper and the frame having apertures for said other pins.
5. A frisket frame provided with side clamp bars and shoulder pins for holding said'bars firmly in position on the frame, said frame having tapered apertures therein to receive and cooperate with the shoulders on the said pins.
6. A frisket frame provided with means for attaching frisket paper or other suitable material. to the frame, said means being loo
