Description

3. AUGSPUR'GER.
4 LAND-MARKERS'. No.-177.916. .Patented May 30,1876.
UNITED 4STATES JOHN AUGSP URHGER,
ori TRENTON, onIo.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAND-QMARKERS..
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l77,9 [6, dated May 30, 1876; application filed January 27, 1876.
To all whom it may concern: Y
Be it known that I, JOHN AUGSPURGER, of Trenton, in the county of Butler and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Land-Markers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the lety ters of reference marked thereon.
Figure l represents a perspective view of my machine. Fig. 2 represents a top or plan view ot' the same,V with the platform and seat removed.
My present invention relates to certain improvements in the land marker or furrower for which a patent was granted to me October 11,1875; and it consists in the arrangement of a `lever, in combination with the hinged tongue, whereby the front ruimer of the marker may be elevated and held above the ground while the machine is being turned around at the termination of each successive through,77 as hereinafter described.
The frame A a supports the platform B, npon which two upright pieces, D7 are secured for holding the drivel-s seat G. Y Two runners or markers, E, are attached to the 4under side ot' the part A, and the central runner G is secured to the under side of the rear end of the tongue H, which is hinged upon bolt l, between the two frame-pieces a a.. The runners E F G, which mark the land for planting, are arranged the proper distance apart for planting corn, and these runners may be easily removed, and others, of any desired construction, may be bolted to the frame and tongue in their places.
The prominent feature of my improved ards D, and insert the bolt in the holes made Y for the purpose.
It will be readily understood that the elevation of the lever I will raise up the front end ot' the machine, and cause its weight to be supported by the hinged tongue, which will rest upon the neck-yoke of the team.
When the lever I is secured in an elevated position, by inserting a bolt or pin beneath it through the holes in the standards D, the
front marker G will not come in contact with the surface of the ground, and the machine may then be freely turned around by the team without risk of damage.
Having described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a landmarking machine, the combination of the fixed runners E F upon the main frame, with verticallyadjustable runner G, hinged tongue H, lever I, and uprights D, arranged as and for the purpose described.
Witness my hand this 10th day of Novemi ber, 1875. JOHN AUGSPURGER. Witnesses:
H. P. K. PEGK, J. KIMBLE.
