IMPROVEMENT lN LAND-MARKERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,915, dated May 30, 1876; application filed J annary 27, 1876.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN AUGSPURGER, of Trenton, in the county of Butler and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in LandM-arkers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my machine. Fig. 2 represents the plan of the same.

The invention herein described is a modification of my improved land-marker, the patent bearing even date herewith; and it consists in the combination of an elongated hinged I tongue with the frame to which the runners are attached. The objects of this combination are to cheapen the construction and proride for elevating the front runner or marker when the machine is to be turned around.

In the drawings, the tongue A is hinged between the two upright plates B, which are bolted to the platform 0. The tongue extends rearward of its hinge, passing between the two flat uprightsupports S, upon which the seat D is secured. The runners E F F are made of metal, with sharp front edges to cut obstacles like grass, weeds, and corn-stalks, and are made of two plates of metal, which diverge as they extend back to their rear ends, as represented. The three runners are secured under the frame represented in Fig. 2.

attendant will elevate the front runner E by raising up the rear end of the tongue, (the front end of which will be supported by the neck-yoke of the team,) and a pin will be inserted under it in the holes in standards S.

In practice I have found the land-marker constructed in this manner to work very convenientlyand successfully for furrowing out land for planting corn and other crops.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In a land-marking machine, the arrangement and combination of the runners E F F, hinged tongue A, and perforated guides S,

with the frame, for the purpose specified.
