This arrangement for supporting the pessary allows the natural motions of the uterus, caused by the changes in position and motions of the body and diaphragm, the elastic cords causing the pessary to spring back, supporting the uterus in its normal position, and give ing strength and elasticity to the patients muscles and ligaments.
In case of retroversion the stemE is curved to fit the pelvis. For anteversion the stem is made straight, and a half-inch shorter, because the posterior curve, when turned anteriorly,'presses into the vesica urinaria and urethra, not being adapted to the anterior wall of the pelvis, the depth of the vagina being less anterior-1y than posteriorly. F is a perineal pad, covered with impervious material, and provided with elastic cords f, to tie the pad to the cords d, as seen in Figs. 2 and 6.
These supporters, constructed as described, are readily attached and detached, and all of them, or any number'of them, may be used together, or either one of them alone, as required. When the abdominal and dorsal pads, either or both of them, are not required, they'are detached, and the belt used to support the pessary or perineal pad.
