The invention relates to molding apparatus and has been developed in casting articles from metals, such as aluminum or its alloys, having a high crystallization shrinkage and a low fusing point. One of the objects of the invention is to provide a form of molding apparatus which may be quickly and readily operated and which has a core insertable into the mold cavity and adapted to support the casting while the mold sections are being separated. Another object is to provide a simple construction for guiding and supporting the core. A further object is to provide an improved means for leclamping the mold. sections together. With these aswell as other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel featuresl of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as more fully hereinafter set forth. f

In the resent instance the molding apparatus em odying our invention is designed for use in casting articles, such as a spray gun, and has the base l and the permanent metal mold sections 2 and 3, which are adapted to swing horizontally upon the base about the vertical lpin 4 secured to the base and engaging one end of the mold sections. The ad] acent faces of these mold sections are formed with recesses which register when the mold sections are together to formthe mold cavity 5 and the gate 6. This mold cavity is located between the tops and bottoms o f the mold sections and terminates near the free ends thereof. 7 is 'a horizontally movable permanent metal core, which is adapted to bainserted,longitudinally into the mold cavity to make a portion of the casting hollow. This core is u ided and supported by the cradle 8, which is fxedly 'secured upon the base 1 adjacent to the free ends of the mold sections when in closed casting osition. The core has the shoulder 'a0 9, wlnc is spaced from the cradle 8 suiliciently to permit the insertion of a pry to remove the core from the mold cavity. The core also has the handle 10 principally for inserting the core into the cavity.
To clamp the mold sections 2 and 34in their closed casting position, we have provided the metal clamping yoke 11 having the legs l2 and 13 with the leg 12 pivotally connected to the outer side of themold section. 2 by the horizontally exten ing pin 14. This 60 yoke is adapted to swing t irough a vertical path and to embrace the reduced portions 15 at the free ends of the moldsections. 16 is a cam member having the head 17 and the handle 18 with the head 17 pivotally cono5 nected to the leg 13 ofthe yoke by the horizontally extendlng pin 19. The head is positioned relative to the mold 'section 3 so that its cammed or eccentric face is enaageable With this mold section'to tightly clamp the same against'the mold section 2. The top 20 of the clamping yoke is of T cross section, it hav-ing the lateral anges 21 at its lower edge and extending above the 'legs 12 and 13, which are bifurcated to embrace the bracket 22 fixedly secured to the outer side of the vmold-section 2 and the head 17 of the cam member. r
From the above description, it will be readily seen that we have provided a simple construction of molding apparatus which may be readily and quickly operated and Vwhich is so arrangedthat the core is adapted to support the casting while separating 'the mold sections, it being understood that before these mold sections are separated the core 'is first partially withdrawn. It will also be seen that we have provided a simple construction of core guide and support which isn` located beyond the mold sections and an effective arrangement for clamping the mold sections together in their closed or castin position.
What we claim as our inventiony is:
1. In a molding apparatus, the combina- 05 tion with a base, of mold sections upon said base adapted to cooperate to form a mold cavity, and means for clamping said sections together, including a yoke pivotall mounted upon one of said sections an movable adapted to swing throu h a vertical path and to embrace the reduce portions of said sec tions, and a cam member upon the free end of said yoke and engageable with theedjacent section for forcing the same toward the other section.
3.- In a moldin apparatus the combination with a base, o a pair of pivotal mold sections upon said base adapted to cooperate to form a mold cavity terminating near the'free ends thereof, a core'insertable into the mold cavity, a cradle upon said base adjacent the free ends of said sections for guiding said core, a yoke pivotally connected to one of said sections adj scent. its free end and adapted to swing through a vertical path to embrace said sections, and a cam member upon thefree end-of said yoke and engageable with the adjacent section to force the same toward the other section. j
4. In a molding apparatus, the combination with a base, ofmeans foi` forming a mold cavity comprisin a pair of pivotal mold sections upon sai base having `reduced free end portions, a core `insertable into the mold cavity, a cradle upon said base adjacent the reduced portions of said sections for support ing and guiding said core, and means engageable with the reduced portions of said serlzltions for forcing the sectionstoward each ot er.
5. In a molding apparatus, the combination with a base, of means for forming a. mold cavity comprising a pair of pivotal-mold sections upon said base having reduced free end portions, a core insertable into the mold cavity, a cradle upon said base adjacent the reduced portions of said sections for supportm and guiding said core, means engageab e with the reduced portions ofv said sections for forcing the sections towardeach other, including a yoke pivoted uponfone of saidsections and ada ted to swin through a vertical path to em race the re uced portions of said sections, and a cam member u on the free end of said yoke and enga ele with the adjacent section for forcing e same toward the other section.
6. In a'molding apparatus the combination with a base, o means for forming a mold cavity comprismga pair of pivotal mold `sections u n4 sald ase,acore insertable into the mo d cavity, a member u adjacent the free ends of sai n said base sections for said sections together including a member pivotally mounted u on one of said sections and movable throug a path transverse to said base to embrace said sections.
