The present invention relates more parhood 17 having an outwardly tapered bore ticularly to ventilation equipment for min- 18, from which extends an outwardly flared ing, tunnel work and the like, and the object. discharge orifice 19. A stem 20, fixed to the is to provide means of a novel character by head 15, is provided with a conical valve which the air supplied in underground workelement 21 that is located in the outer end 5 ings will be moistened, thus moistening the of the tapered bore 18 and is adapted to profine dust particles ordinarily present and ject into the orifice 19 when the hood is causing them to settle from the air, while at screwed rea ardly upon the head A the same time lowering the temperature and cap 22 is screwed upon the rear end of the in contributing generally to the protection of hood lTand surrounds the pipe 14. Interthe safety, health and welfare of the miners posed between this cap and the head 15 and and other workmen. nozzle hood 17 may be packing as indicated In the accompanying drawings: at 28. The pipe 14 is supplied with both air Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view and water, supply pipes 24 and 25 leading through a portion of a ventilator, showing from any suitable sources of supply (not 65 the novel structure, shown) being connected to said pipe 14. Figure 2 is a cross sectional view on the These pipes 24 and 25 are also provided with line 22 of Figure 1, controlling valves 26 and 27. The lower Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional View side of the conduit section 8 is preferably of the spray nozzle, provided with a gutter 28 having a drain 7t Figure 4 is a front elevation of the head of opening 29. such nozzle, In using this device, the nozzle preferably Figure 5 is a sectional View on the line 5-5 is faced against the direction of the air curof Figure 4, rent.
