gure Ak'12 is'an endjview of one of the dufduplieetecouplingmembersishown by F ig-V the member 22 has fa anV alloy, Steel, is C-'shaped 'as disclosed by saidy prior patent, and ris provided with ends l5, between Which is an open space. Each of the ends 15 is, provided with projections 16, having flanges 17, at their ends forming `shoulders 18.
In case the link is to be provided with a central stud,`avboss .19 is formed on the side of the link body opposite the isprovided With a recessV 20.
The link body as thus. far described is substantiallyas disclosed by said prior patent, and thec'oupling members are interengaged With'the ends 15,'kand bridge thefop'en space as heretofore. Y Wewill now describe the preferred construction shown Figures 1 to 8, inclusive, whereby the coupling members are united to Y each other.
21 and' 22 designate the coupling members `Which yhave plain abuttinginner sides 23,
and recesses 28 and 29 fitting the projections y16 and-flanges 17 of the link body ends 15,
so that the coupling members are interlocked With the ends of the link body as heretofore. Each coupling' member has an ear projecting ear,'the ear of one member projecting into the recess of the otheigso that the members are interlocked -against edgewise movement in theplane of the link. In this embodiment the member 21 has a projecting' ear 24, and a recess 25 beside said ear, as shown by F igures Land 5, and in section by Figure 2, and projecting ear 26, and a recess 27 beside the same, as shown byFigures 6 and 7, and in section by Figure 2,- the ears and recesses being interengagedfor interlocked as Shown by Figure 2. Said ears and f recesses extend crossWise ofthe pin socket hereinafter described.
The vabutting inner sides 23 of the coupling members 21 and 22 have recessed faces 30 open space, and f v from its inner side, and a recess beside the Y and 31, forming opposite side portions of a VtaperedV socket extending across and belso pere'dj socket.
across the link body 14,'and
V' With. a vsocket vvextension tween the members, said faces alternating with the ears and recesses.
The ears 9A! and Q''are provided with ta#V pered bores 32', alined with the socket por'- tions formed by the recessed faces30 and 3l, andiconstituting other portions yof '33' designatesfa 'tapered pin formed tohave a closevdrivingit in the ta-V pered socket, and prevented from withdrawalV therefrom by a lead keying 'button or head 34C, swaged into an undercut open,-
ing provided by coinciding recesses 35, formed in thejabutting faces of the coupling members at the outer ends of AIVthe recessed faces 30.
- The ear bores 32 entirely surroundv a'por ytion Yof t-hepin33, so that the ears cooperate with said pin'in .preventing sidewisemove-k lment of the coupling members relative tothe plane ofthe link,.and withdrawal of said members from the Vopen side of they C-shaped body 14C. The describedcouplii'ig members 'are not duplicates ofeach other, so far as the ears and the ear-receiving recesses are, conccrned. Y
The embodimentl shown by Figures 9i() 13, inclusive, Vincludes two couplingy members f 3,7, each a duplicateof'the other, each. having an ear 38 and a recess 39, the recess of'each member receiving ythe ear of the other member, the form and arrangement offsaid ears and recesses constituting thefchief differences between` .the members, being new described, and the members 2l and 22 `abovedescribed- The ears 38, instead kof extending 'cross'- l wise of the tapered socket'and pin, vand'l'iaving continuous socket bores like l`the .ears 24 Vand 26, stand at opposite sides ofthezpin andV have open recessed socket-forming yfaces 40, which bear onoppositesides of the pin,
- the wall lof said recess entirely surrounding the ends ofthe coupling member proj ections.
` The link body isprovided atitsn'iidlength 49 receivingy Ythe i smaller end'of the pin 33, so thatthe pin is y seated both on the socket of thejcoupling Vmembers and on a socket extension in the link body,V i'
A lt will be seenfthat the ears and recesses lock' the couplingmembers against sidewise of the couplingmembers constitute an em- 'bodiment of ymeansv associated 'with 'said members for interlockingthe saine against edgewisek movement in the plane of the link, said interlocking means being adapted, as by the bores 32 or the recessed faces 40 to cooperate with the pin 33 in loc ring the coupling membersV against sidewise movement relative to the plane'oflthe link.
