KILeonn, or oivrn ra, itnnnes A PLAIT HOLDER The invention relates to plait holding devices particularly adapted to a variety of finishing operations associated with garment cleaning establishments as well as laundries where pressing, ironing and re-forniing plaits in dresses and other garments is done.
A further object is to provide a device of this character which is light, portable, cheap to manufacture and one which may be supported on any conventional table or bench or bracket A further object is to'provide a plait forming and holding device comprising a board, preferably inclined and having brackets carried by the underside thereof adjacent one end, which brackets support longitudinally disposed rods adjacent opposite edges of the board for the reception of hooked ends of yieldable straps, which arch the board and garment thereof for holding the plaits during the ironing operation. a
A further objectis to provide the rods with return horizontal portions forming support engaging members for supporting the device as a whole.
A further object is to provide plates secured to the under side of the board adjacent one end thereof, which plates have mounted thereon downwardly and outwardly inclined arms terminating in rods to the outer sides of the board below the board and in parallel relation to the sides, said rods terminating in return horizontal support engaging members havin 'an 'ularl dis osed arms anchored to the plates, thereby allowing the arms and supports to be formed from rod material bent to form.
A further object is to form the garment engaging fleiiible member from non-yieldable material, and to provide stretchable members at the ends thereof provided with hooks for engaging over the rods for imparting pulls on the non-yieldable members from both ends thereof.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be working, the ironing board 1 as well .rods 7 inchne as shown.
made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of my invention.
, In the drawing: 2 Y I Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of the plait holder. i l i V l Figure 2 is a sideelevation of the holder.
Figure. 3- is' a transverse -sectional View through the plait holder taken on line 3--3 of Figural. V i
Referringto the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a conventional form of board, for instance an ironing board, which tapers from its rear end 2 to its forward end 3, however, it is to be understood that applicant does not limit himselfitothe use of any particular shape of board. At the present time in pressing establishments and laundries, it is extremely hard to hold'the plaits of plaited articles during the arrangement ofthe plaits for ironing purposes, and to. avoid the diificulty the present device is primarily designed.
Secured totl e under side of the ironing board 1 adjacent its rear end 2 by. means 'of 1 screws. 4; are elongated plates 5, which plates have connected thereto adjacent their forwardends downwardly and outwardly extending arms 6, which arms terminate in an- The forward ends 9:01 the rods Tare provided with return bends 10, thereby forming horizontally. disposed "arms lla dapted to rest on a table or other support for supporting the plait' holder. The rear ends of the arms 11 terminate in upwardly extendingarms 12, which are connected to the plates 5 and brace the arms 11 during the ironing operation.
I Arms 6, rods 7 andarms 11 and 12 of each supporting mem her are formed froma single piece of rod material bent to form, therefore it will be seen that these parts of the device may be cheaply manufactured and sold. F or convenience in as the In operation a plaited garment is placed on then asith'e plaits are arranged the flexible members 13 are placed over the garment, and the yieldable members 14 carried by the ends of the flexible members 13 are stretched until the hooks 15 carried thereby are received on the rods 7, therefore it will be seen that the flexible members will be held in close engagement with the plaits of the garment-during the ironing operation and as the operator reaches a particular flexible member 13, said flexible member may be raised for ironing beneath the same, and after the ironing operation is completed the garment may be easily and quickly removed by detaching the flexible members or in the case of a small garment, the flexible members may be raised manually for pulling the garment from under the same.
From the above it will be seen that a plait holding device is provided which is particularly adapted for use in cleaning and pressing establishments and laundries, and the device is simple in construction, the parts reduced to a minimum and constructed in a manner whereby it may be cheaply manufactured and sold.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is 1. A plait holding device comprising a garment receiving board, arms secured to the underside of the board adjacent one end thereof, said arms extending downwardly and thence toward the other end of the board in spaced relation with the underside of the board, flexible members arching the board and contraetable members carried by the as flexible members at their ends and detachably connected to the arms.
2. A plait holding device comprising an elongated board for the reception of a garment, plates carried by the underside of the 40 board adjacent its opposite sides and one end,
arms connected to said plates in spaced relation, said arms extending downwardly and outwardly in spaced relation, the ends of said arms terminating in arms extending to- 45 wards the other end of the board, one of said last named arms being in spaced parallel relation to and below the opposite edges of the board, the other arms of said last named arms being in horizontal positions.
50 3. A plait holding device comprising an i11- clined garment receiving board, downwardly and forwardly extending brackets carried by the underside of said board adjacent one end and extending towards the other end, said brackets being formed from rod material bent to form upper rods in parallel relation to the board and lower rods in a horizontal plane, flexible members arching the board and having their ends terminating below the board and contractable members detachably connecting the flexible member ends connecting the upper rods to the flexible members.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aifix my signature.
as DELBERT' M. REEVES.
