` s lThis invention relates to thread holders and `more particularly to a device of this character of a portable type which is adapted to be securely mounted and clamped on any convenient support and which is further adapted to support a plurality of spools of thread and which will occupy a very small amount of space, when in use. Y An object of the invention is to provide, in
a manneras hereinafter set forth, a spool holder ofthe aforementioned character,which is adapted to support a'single large ball of worsted or yarn which may betoo large to be mounted on 4the device in the saine manner in which a conventional spool of thread is mounted thereon. p
 Other objects of the invention'are to provide, 1n a manner as hereinafter set forth, a
 spool holder of the above mentioned character which will be simple in construction,
strong, durable, efficient in its use, and which may be manufactured at av low cost.
 Other objects of the invention will become apparent from p a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings,'wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and
y wherein:
 Figure lis a side elevation of a spool holder constructed in accordance with this invention;
y Figure 2 is a front elevation of the same'V showing the large ball of yarn or worsted lmounted thereon.
 Figure 3 is a perspective View showing the device in use for holding a plurality of thread spools. v
 VReferring to the drawings in detail, the reference character l designates a substantially inverted U-shaped supporting clamp having one end provided with a forwardly projecting loop 2 and at its opposite end with a clamping screw 3, and it is provided on one end with an actuating handle or knob 4 and on its opposite end is providedwith a swivelled cushion head 5. It will be under-` stood that the U-shaped clamp l is adapted to be slipped over any suitable support and clamped thereon by threading the screw 3 inmnengimw Ward-1y against Said Support 10ntl1eforiiard wallfof the elampg'l fand above v"the "clip prtion 2 ther'eo'fi's a liollw vertical rib or prof tuberance 6, having an open upper-end. A plurality of vertically extending outwardly bent Yresilient wire rods 7 have their lower ends inserted in the portion 6, the rods 7 diverging upwardly from their point of connection with theclamp l, and being provided at their upper ends with outwardly directed portions 8. Y
 It is to be understood that the rods 7 may be secured at the lower end to the forward wall of the clamp l, in kany suitable manner, as by riveting, stapling or by soldering the same thereto. A ring 9 encircles all of the resilient springrods 7 andwhen the deviceV is in use for supportingoa plurality of spools as illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawings, said ring is slipped downwardly on the rods 7 to a point adjacentthe clamp l and the rods are thus allowed to spring outwardly to their normal positions. When the device is not in and press'the hooks 8` into the side walls of .the openings through the ball of yarn or worsted. I
 It is believed that the ,many advantages of a spool holder constructed in accordance with this invention will be readily understood and although the preferred embodiment of the inf vention'is illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details'of construction may be had, which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
 1. Al spool holder of the character' described, comprising a clamp, a plurality of diverging resilient wires mounted on said clamp, each of said Wires being adapted to support a plurality of spools7 and a slidable ring encircling said Wires and adapted to draw the diverse ends thereof together when moved upwardly thereon.
 2. A spool holder of the characterdef,- scribed, comprising a substantially U-'shaped Supporting clamp, a plurality of upwardly diverging spool supportingresilient rods mounted on the clalnpoutwardly turnedhook y portions on the upper ends of the rod, and a slidable ring encircling said rod and adapted.,
to move the free ends thereof toward each other when said ring Iis moved upwardly thereon,k
