The present invention relates to multiple machines for operatin `on a continuous sti-1p of stock material, an has iparticular reference to multiple machines o the eyelet type.
One object of the invention is to provide anovel feedin mechanism and a novel feeding method Ier a multiple machine with a plurality of sets of tools operating on a single stri of Astock material.

invention consists of a novel arrangement of Varts more fully disclosed in the detailed escription following, in conjunction with lthe accompanying drawings, and more particularly set forth in the appended claims.

It as been found desirable, in the use of multiple tool machines operating on a continuous stock strip, to eliminate all stress and pull on the strip between successive operations and thus permit exact work centering without distortion; and it has beenfound of devices which do not o struct the vision of t e operator and do not interfere with adjustment or replacement of tools. I have devised a novel feeding arrangement which feeds the strip stock in a helical loop around the lower portion of the machine to be operated upon by the tools in successive passes in sequence or inde ndently, as desired, the slack in the depen 'ng loop portions eliminatin al1 stress and pull on the work and I utillz'e positive intermittent feeds to feed each strip stock portion to the next tool, thus insuring exact ali ent of the work and tool irrespective o the number of operations performed in the multi le machine; and the following is a detailed 0- scription of the specific embodiment of my invention as applied to a multiple drawing, cutting or swaging machine of the eyelet yPe Referring tothe drawings, 10 designates the frame of the multi le machine, com rising a head section 11, a d section 12, an the usual sup ort members 0r feet 13. A plurality of in ependently operating tools 14 are mounted to reciprocate in the head section guide ways 15, and are actuated in timed reation by a cam or crank shaft 16 rotated through the pulley drive 17. Each operating tool 14 has a cooperating die block or the like 18 which is firmly positioned in align-A ment therewith on the bed section 12, both the operating tool and die'block being adjustable and replaceable in the usual man- Der.

As is particularly shown in Figure 3, the strip stock passes upwardly between two spaced ide rods 21-22, over a rounded guide bloc 23 and under a retainer ide wire 24 and into enga ement with a ile block 18; the strip stoc then passes through a guide bar 25 and over a curved front plate 26 to again pass between guide rods 21, 22.
Each tool set is equi ped with an independent feeding device 2 the illustrated device comprises a sprin pressed pivoted lever 28 having an adjustab e roller arm 29 at one end thereof adapted to be actuated by a cam 30 in timed relation to the movement of its set of cooperatin tools, a feeder and holder linger 31 orthe e being pivotally mounted The stock strip 19 is of the continuous strip on the lower end to engage the work'strip under tension of the usual spring 82 for successively feeding the work strip forward to its set of cooperating' Instead of using a nger device as ascribed above, a pine feed such as shown at`33 in Fure 2, may be used, the finger type being pre erable for eyelet and punch operations. slightly displaced in time phase, thus being out of time with each other to reduce excessive vibration. The tool sets may be adjusted to obtain a sequence of operations for producing a single article, or to operate inde endentl ,as desired.
