My invention relates to container caps and has for its object the regulating and control of flow through a spouted container cap.
In accomplishing this object I have provided improved details of structure, the preferred forms of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a container cap embodying my improvements installed on a container.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view of the neck of a container and of a container cap.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged plan view of the cap.
Fig. 4 is a. dissociated view of the elements of the cap.
Referring in detail to the drawings:
1 designates a container and here for convenience illustrated as a bottle having a neck 2 to which is applied the cap 3 comprising the annular body or skirt portion 4. and the integral horizontal flange element 5, a spout member 6 being illustrated as integral with the body member and rising from the flange member 5 thereof, the skirt depending from the outer edge or periphery of the flange. The spout member and the body communicate through an opening 7 and in ordinary practice the cap is screw-threaded on the neck of the bottle though a similar type of cap may be provided for pressing on the neck of a bottle, the flange member 5 being ordinarily pressed against the upper edge of the neck.
The spout element 6 has a curved upper wall 8, and the horizontally directed spout outlet 9, the element being provided with an air vent 10 oppositely disposed to the outlet 9 and adjacent the juncture of the spout element with the flange for admission of air to the container to permit the outflow of fluid from the container through the spout outlet.
I provide sealing means for stopping the flow and for sealing the opening whereby the flow may be controlled and comprising a valve element 11 and illustrated in detail in Fig. 4. The valve element comprises a cork 19 is fixed to the end of the stem,
pressed upon the neck to seal the joint of cap with neck, the orifice 13 providing the outlet port for fluid from the container through the cap and spout.
The valve 11 consists of a disk 14 having the upturned annular flange 15 of slightly greater diameter than the orifice 13 for closing said orifice and a stem 16 being projected through the orifice and upwardly through an opening 17 in the spout member 6, whereby the valve is positioned axially of the opening and its flange bears against the gasket adjacent the openin 7.
A coil spring 18 is sleeved on the stem exterior to the spout element and a head disk the spring being'compressed so that bearing against the head and the spout, it forces the valve into impressed and sealing engagement with the impressible gasket 12.
The upper wall of the spout element is instruck to provide the annular flange 20 around said opening 17 whereby a bearing and guiding collar or journal is provided for the reception of the valve stem 16 in alignment on the axis of the opening in the gasket. 7 The structure having been provided as described, the spouted cap in which the gasket and the valve element are assembled may be installed on a container and the gasket properly impressed by secure engagement of the cap with the container to effect a seal. The spring 18, enforcing the valve against the gasket, prevents the outflow of fluid, either vapor or liquid, except under control of an operator, outflow being permitted by the depression of the head 19 against the spring 18 to space the valve from the disk orifice.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the character described comprising in combinationwith a bottle, a cap includin a skirt adapted to be applied to the neck 0 the bottle, an integral inwardly extending horizontal flange adapted to be pressed against the upper edge of the neck, and a spout integral withsaid flange and having a stem-receiving opening, a gasket interposed between the edge of the neck and the flange, a valve having an upturned edge flange and a stem extending through sald spout opening and flangevand having a head exterior to the spout, and a spring on said stem bearing oppositely against said head and the spout to urge the valve flange against the gasket.
2. In a device of the character descrilbe'd, ,a cap comprising a cylindrical skirt portion, 'ahorizontal flange extending inwardly from the upper edge of the skirt portion and having a central opening, and a spout extending upwardly from the inner edge of the flange, the spout having a curved upper walland a horizontally directed outlet, said wall being provided with a stem opening, a gasket having a central orifice seated in the cap and including a portion extending inwardly from the edge of the flange, a valve includinga stem extending through the gasket orifice and said stem opening in the'spout, a disk engageable with the gasket to close the gasket opening, and means for urging the valve against the gasket to press the gasket against the cap.
