IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,520, dated May 16, 1876; application file March 21, 1876.

The object of this invention is to furnish an improved plow which shall be so constructed that the plow-standard. may be adjusted to giveany desired pitch to the plow, and may be held securely in place when adjusted, and which will support the wing of the plow-plate to prevent it from being bent or broken. l The invention will first be described in connection with the drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
A represents a plow-beam, in a mortise in which is secured a bar, B. To the opposite sides of the lower end of the bar B are pivoted the upper ends of two slightly-curved parallel bars, G, the lower ends of which are formed solid with each other. Between the middle parts of the bars 0 is pivoted the end of the bent or elbow bar D, the upper end of whichis bent outward to lie upon the under side of the beam A, and is slotted to receive the bolt E, by which it is secured to said beam, so
that by loosening the said bolt E the standard 0 may be adjusted at any desired pitch. The stay or brace D may be placed in the rear of the standard 0, as shown in Fig. 1, or in front of said standard, as indicated by the bolt-hole a.
When the brace D is placed in front of the standard 0,. there may be pivoted to its angle a rotary cutter, F, to cut stubble, sod, &c., above the plow. G is the plow-plate, which is secured to the lower part of the standard 0 by a bolt, 9, passing through it, and through the space between the bars of the standard. H is an angle-plate, which is secured to the side of the lower part of the standard 0 by two bolts, h, passing through a slot in one of. the bars of the standard 0. The plate H is.
