Similar cross rods 13 are supported between the lowermost pair of opposed brackets to form foot engaging rails. An additional similar constructed cross bar 14: is reniovably supported between an intermediate pair of opposed brackets fora purpose hereinafter to be more fully described.
The exercising device further includes the provision of a vertically swinging frame designated generally by the numeral 15 and this frame includes a pair of wooden side bars or standards 16 that are secured together in spaced relation by the cross rods 17 and, dctachable horizontal bars 18, the construction of which will be presently described. The upper ends of the side bars or standards of the swinging frame 15 are formed with registering openings to accommodate the supporting bar 7 which has its ends supported in the sockets 5 and 6 of the uppermost bracketstl and 4t respectively. Each of the side bars or standards is formed with a series of spaced circular openings 19, the openings in one side bar or standard registering with the openings in the other side baror standard for accommodating one or more of the horizontally extending handle bars 18, the outer ends of the handle bars being provided with metal caps or ferrules such as are shown at 20 with reference more particularly to .Fig-
, ure 1.1
For the purpose of securing each of the handle bars against displacement from the respective registering openings provided therefor in the side bars or standards of the swinging frame,'there is arranged on one side edge of each standard adjacent each of the circular openings 19, a spring strip 21 that issecured at one end as at 22, the free end carrying an inwardly extending pin 23 that projects through the inwardly extending aperture formed in the standard and the free end of this pin enters the circular opening as clearly shown in Figure 5.
The outer ends of each handle bar are formed with annular channels, and the adjacent portions'of the metallic caps or ferrules are pressed inwardly and the inner ends of In use, the door 2 is swung to an open position, and a person grasps the handle bar 18 to swing the frame 15 vertically, and the user of the device may place his feet upon one of the foot rails 13 as indicated in Figure 3 of the drawings. When not in use, the frame 15 is locked in a vertical position within the door frame against swinging movement by positioning the locking bar 14 in a predetermined pair of opposed brackets secured to the inner opposed faces of the door frame, and the lower free ends of the side bars or standards 16 are notched as illustrated at 25 for engagement with this locking bar 14 as clearly shown in Figure 2. It is of course understood that this lockingbar 14 isremoved from between the door frame when the swinging frame 15 is to be used.
lVhile I have shown the exercising device as being mounted in a door frame, the same can be arranged in a pocket formed in the wall or may furthermore be supported between a pair of uprights secured on a stand vor the like.
The simplicity of my improved exercising device enables the parts to be readily and easily set up in position for use, and the cross bars that extend between the sides of the door frame can be quickly and easily inserted or removedfrom their respective brackets.
An exercising device of the above mentioned character will furthermore be strong and durable, and will also afford a simple and efficient means whereby a person may exercise whenever desired.
W'hile I'have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention it is to be understood that minor changes may be made in the invention in the size, shape and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is 1. In an. exercising device of the class described, the combination with a door frame, socket members secured to the inner opposed faces of the door frame and arranged in pairs, a cross bar detachably secured at its ends in one pair of sockets in the upper portion of the door frame, a vertically swinging frame supported at its upper end on the said cross bar, a handle bar carried by the lower portion of said vertically swinging frame, and means for locking said frame in a vertical position in the door frame against swinging movement.
2. In an exercising device of'the class described, the combination with a door frame, socket members secured to the inner opposed faces of the door frame and arranged in pairs, a cross bar detachably secured at its ends in one pair of sockets in the upper portion of the door'frame, a vertically swinging frame supported at its upper end on the said cross bar, a
