This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a garbage can.

One object of the invention is to provide a a garbage can having a removable cover, and equipped with means releasably secured to the cover and adapted to hold said cover gainst displacement. p

The type of garbage can now commonly used has a removable cover but no means for holding the cover in place so that when the can is filled the cover may be displaced by dogs and the like, and the contents scattered.

It is tie object of this inventionto provide a garbage can having a removable cover but which is equipped with means for holding the cover against displacement, said means being releasable when it is desired to remove the cover to fill or empty the can.'

lVith the above and other objects in view this invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction arrangement of parts and use, an example of which is given in. this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 shows a side elevation of the can partly in section, and

When it is desired to remove the cover the hooks 8 may be elevated and disengaged from the cover and then turned to one side and lowered as indicated in dotted lines in Figure 1. The cover may then be removed and the can filled or emptied and the cover replaced and secured thereon as hereinabove' explained.

While I have shown what I now consider to be the preferred form of the invention it is obvious that mechanical changes maybe made therein and equivalents substituted for the parts shown and I reserve the right to make such changes ene substitutions as maybe found desirade and such may be comprehended with the principle of the invention.
