Application filed m 5,
Thisinvention relates to a novelty device which is designed and adapted to be posi tioned on vehicles, such as automobiles, bi-
cycles and the like, said device being inthe form of a figure, together with means operable by the pressure of air, to put the figure in motion.
The principal object of the invention is the provision of'a device of the indicated charact-er embodying novel features of construetion and'operation hereinafter fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which I Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a device embodying the features of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig.1. I v
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the propeller of the device, the blades thereof being shown extended.
Fig. 4 is a view illustrating the blades of the propeller folded or collapsed.
Fig. 5. is a view of the intermediate pro- Pel er blade.
Fig. 6 is a detail section taken on the line '66 of Fig. 4., V 7
Referring now more particularly to the several views of the drawing, it will be apparent that the device includesa Figure 10 which may be of any preferred form in simulation of some natural or unnatural object. In the present instance the figure is in the form of a man. including a body 11 having jointed arms 12 and jointed legs 13. A tubular member 14 extends downwardly from the body 11, and has a plate or disk 15 on the lower end thereof. The device also includes attaching means which may be of any preferred form, and in the present instance, is
in the form of'a clamp, consisting of Cooper ating members 16 and 1?,and screws 18 which serve toholdthe members 16 and 17 in clamping engagement with a suitable support 19.
The support 19 may constitute an appurtey nance of a vehicle such as an automobileor bicycle on whichthe device is to be mounted. A post or rod 20 is secured as at 21 to the member 16 of the clamp. The tubular member 14 on the body 11 of the figure receives 19 29. Serial no. 376,158.
the post or rod 20 therein, so that saidfigure may be moved up and down on the poster rod 20. A bracket 22 is provided, and in the present instance isformed as a cont-inuatlon of the poster rod-20, the material being bent I to provide coils 23 and a horizontally disposed member 24: which constitutes a stop. The
Motion is imparted to the shaft 26 by a wind propeller consisting of blades 28, 29
and 30. The blade 28 is weighted as at 3 1 on the outer end, and the inner end thereof iii has a hub 32.- Each of the blades 28 and 30 has an arcuate slot 33, and the intermediate blade 29 has a hole 34: in the inner end located so as to register with the slots 33. The blades 29 and 30 are held against axial 'movement on the hub 32, by a collar 35 and a set screw 36 carried by the collar. The screw 36 is re- 1 ceived in a tapped hole in the hub 32. I he said screw 36 also engages the shaft 26 in order to cause rotation of the shaft with the propeller. The propeller blades are held in the extended relationship as shown in Fig. 3 by a screw 3'? and clamp 38 in threading engagement with the screw 3?. The screw 37 extends through the s ots 33 in the blades 28 and 30 and the hole 3l in the b ade 29.
From the foregoing it will be understood that when the device is mounted on a vehicle,
and such vehicle is in motion, pressure of air on the propeller will cause it to rotate, and
through the intervention of the hub 32, shaft l 26, crank 27. disk 15 and member 14, the figi shown in F tg-(a, the figure 10 may remain at rest. The propeller blades are collapsed loosening the nut 38 on the screw 37'. enabling the blades to be brought side by side after which the nut 38 may be tightened to hold the blades in this relationship. The shaft 26" may be adjusted with respect to the hub 32 by loosening the screw 36, to bring the crank 27 in the up position While the blades are in the depending position, after which the screw 36 may be tightened to maintain this relationship. The propeller blades will then balance the figure 10. It will also be apparent that the disk 15 will engage the stop 2a to prevent separation of the figure from the post or rod 20. 10 I claim:
1. A device having the combination of a figure, a post having means for attaching it to a suitablesupport, means connected with the figure and having axial movement on said post in opposite directions, and air pressure operated means comprising a propeller, acrankconnected with and operated by the propeller, and a disk connected with the figure and operated by the crank, to cause the axial movement of said figure.
' 2. A device having the combination of a figure, a post having means for attaching it to a suitable support, means connected with the figure and having up and down movement on said post, means limiting the up and down movement of said figure, and air pressure operated means comprising a propeller, a crank connected with and operated by the propeller, and a disk connected with the figure and operated by the crank. to cause the up and down movement of said figure.
