The supporting lroller 13 is, for this reason, preferably provided with a knurled or some suitable gripping face indicated at 18 to prevent a slipping of` theinserted material when the burring roller 14 is moved so as to press the inserted material against the face 18. rThis frictional contact is used to maintain a'rotating move-l ment with the inserted material fortlie last action to finish the barring lof the edge. This finishing is best understood by the illustration in Fig. 8. By moving the second burring roller 19 against the already bentover edge of the inserted material, the bent `over edge 16 is 'folded upon itself as the notched bui-ring roller 19 closes in upon this edge ofthe inserted material, so that the finished burring has the appearance illus trated in this figure.

The plates 10 and 11 can be moved towards and away from each other by the action or" a cam illustrated in Fig. 5. which the plate 11 is pivotally mounted, is
kshiftably disposed inthe arm 24- of the frame 22 to allow an axial movement of this pin 23 and therewith a movement of the plate 11 Y towards the plate 10 in the direction'oi` the arrow 25. A 'cotter pin 26 serves to hold the spring 27 against the shoulder 28 in the arm 24. rlhe spring presses the pin 23 normally and automatically against the cam 29.
By an actuating of the lever 30, the shaft 31 and therewith the cam 29 may be rotated to press upon the pin 23 against the pressure of the spring 27 toinove the pin and therewith the supporting plate 11 in the direction of the arrow 25. The cam 29 is moved to wed ge against the end of the pin 23 sufliciently to hold the plate 11 pressedtowards theb plate'10 and when a piece of sheet materialis roller is then moved towards ,the supporting 'the plates to be rotated with the plates.

To assure a proper centralizing of around plate of sheet material, adjustable guiding rollersfare provided as illustrated in Fig. 2, indicated at 32 and 33. By setting these guidingrollers, smaller or larger plates can be inserted to be automatically centralized and turned about the axis concentric with the centers 20 of the holding plates 10 and 11. Either the frame 22 is made movable towards the frame 34, or the trame 34 is made movable towards the frame 22, so that any centralizing of material between `the plates l. 10 and 11 brings the edge of such inserted material in proper relation to the supporting roller 13 andburring roller`14.
The secondary burring roller, illustrated in detailin Fig. 4, is notched in a peculiar wa'y to facilitate a desired burring. A top flange 35 is formed in this secondary burring roller 19,l having a smooth underside 36 against whichthe top surface 37 of an inserted mw terial .may iest. rlhe opposite face of the lower flange 38 is first generally slanted in a downward direction, indicated at 39. ln addition to this, the slanting face 39 is concaved or cut out, as indicated at 40. The lower edge 41 of this curved or grooved recess v40 is in a position to allow the lower edge 42 of the already bent material to slide in between the smooth surface 36 of the upper flange 35V and the loweredge 41. Since thebent edge of the inserted material rests onthe sharp edge of the supporting roller 13, a pressing or moving of the secondary roller 19 against the bent'edge of the inserted material results in a gradual curving of the bent edge 42V as this bent edge gradually slants over and into the. curved groove 40 in the slant-ing face 39 of the lower flange 33 of the They secondary burring roller 19 is normally held ininoperative position under the tension jof the rspring `43, as illustrated in dctail in Fig. y3. In a burring machine, holding members mounted to rotate around a common axis and having engaging faces opposite and movable towards each other, a supporting roller disposed beyond the outer periphery of the holding members with its axis in a slanting direction in relation to the axis of the holding members and also slanting in a radial direction in relation to the holding members, the roller having a conical face in alignment with the engaging face of one of the holding members, a burring roller disposed with its axis in a radial direction in relation to the holding members and movable towardsthe supporting roller, the burring roller having a cylindrical portion to co-act with the slanting face of said supporting roller and having a flange-like portion adapted to move past the outer edgeof the supporting roller whereby a burring of material can be produced when disposed between the holding members to extend over theedge of said supporting roller, the said. cylindrical portion of the barring roller adapted to co-act with the slanting face of the supporting roller for firmly engaging inserted material in order to rotate the material with the holding members, and a secondary burring roller mounted sidewise of the first-named burring roller for a movement in a plane parallel to the engaging faces of the holding members adapted to be forced against the alreadybent edge of inserted material fora further burring while the material is rotated between the rst-named burring roller and said supporting roller.

In a burring machine, cooperating holding members rotatable around a common axis and movable towards each other, controlling means for releasably moving the said members towards each other, a supporting roller disposed beyond the outer periphery an axis in a radial direction in relation with its axis in a radial direction in relation to said holding members, a burring roller operatively connected with said supporting roller and also disposed in a radial direction in relation to said holding members and` adapted to move towards thesupporting roller, centralizing rollers with their periphery? movable in a plane transversely to` the axis of the holding members whereby in-` serted material can be ycentralized preparatory to being engaged between the holding members, the centralizing rollers being mounted pivotallyand yieldably whereby an inserted material'vmay pass the rollers without undue friction regardless of unevenness along the edges of the inserted material, and l separate clamping frame structures for the centralizing rollers adapted to be/set and adjusted in a plane radially to the holding members.

In a burring machine, cooperating` holding members rotatable around a common axis and movable towards each other, controlling means for releasably moving the said a members towards each other, a supporting roller disposed beyond the outer periphery and with its axis in a radial direction in relation to said holding members, a burring roller operatively connected with said supporting roller and also disposed ina radial direction in relation to said holding members and adapted to move towards the supporting roller, centralizing rollerswith their periphery movable in a plane transversely to the axis of the holding members whereby insertedv material can be centralized preparatory to being engaged between the holding members, the contralizing rollers being mounted pivotally and yieldably whereby an inserted material may pass the rollers without undue friction regardless of unevenness along the edges of the inserted material, and separate clamping frame structures for the centralizing rollers adapted to be set and adjusted in a plane radially to the holding `members and embodying secondary lmeans for finer adjustments of the rollers with respect to their pivotal mountings.
