This invention relates to improvements in emulsifying apparatus. More particularly, my invention relates to emulsifying apparatus of the character including a rotary vessel 7 0r receptacle and a stationary amalgamating member which serves, during rotation of the vessel, to break up constituents, such as eggs, oil, vinegar and similar ingredients, into an emulsified mass comprising mayonnaise.
It is an object of my invention to combine with an emulsifying apparatus including a platform adapted to be rotated, of a receptacle arranged to be detachably secured to said platform, the receptacle being arranged to be disposed relatively to a stationary heater or amalgamating member positioned therein. It is contemplated by my invention to pro vide engaging means between the rotating platform and a receptacle mounted thereon, particularly the bottom thereof, in the nature of a lug on one and a notch on the other, the mere weight of the vessel keeping the notch and lug in engaging relation and is separable therefrom, for unloading the contents of the Vessel after completion of the process or other operations, by lifting the vessel off the platform. It is further contemplated by my invention in its preferred form to provide a vessel made of wood or similar material which will best serve to aid in the amalgamation of emulsifying process in the nature of a keg, which has at the bot-- tom thereof a centering stud engaging a shaft or extension of the same on the platform and also includes at the peripheral bottom walls, slots for engaging studs on the rotatable platform.
It is a particular object of my invention to provide engaging means between a rotatable platform and a vessel adapted to be mounted thereon, of engaging lugs on the platform and complementary slots on the receptacle, the slots on the receptacle being so disposed to readily and quickly slip over engaging lugs on the platform when the vessel rests on the platform, the walls being provided with shock absorbing side walls and reinforcing members whereby lost motion is avoided and in rotation of the platform, 50 the vessel will be drawn therewith by suddenly starting the platform, without lost motion or a tendency to disrupt the slot. It is further contemplated by my invention to provide in an emulsifying apparatus, including a rotatable platform, a vessel adapted to be mounted thereon made of relatively soft material, such as wood, and including slots adapted to engage complemental lugs on the platform, the slots being provided with side walls to resist the shock of. sudden turning movement of the platform and the engaging lugs fitted thereon To attain these objects and such further objects as appear herein or may be herein-v after pointed out, I make reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, in whiche- I Figure 1 is a perspective view, partly in section, showing my device;

Making reference tothe drawing, it will be observed that my device comprises an emulsifying apparatus 10 comprising a base 11, upon which 1s mounted a rotatable platform 12, adapted to be driven by suitable driving means within the base 11 (not shown). Disposed to one side'of the base 11, there is a standard 13, serving to support a container 14 for holding materials, and which also fixedly mounts a stationary amalgamating member 15, held removably in position by the set screw member 16. The :platform 12 is arranged to have mounted thereon the amalgamating vessel 17, into which is disposed the stationary member 15, previously described. Emulsification is obtained of materials deposited within the container,17 by relative rotation of the amalgamating member 15 and the vessel 17. For mounting and rotating the vessel 17, the platform 12 is provided with a centering stud .18 and diametrically disposed lugs 19. The stud 18 is formed to enter a socket 20, in the bottom of the FIGS? sel 21', and is reinforced by thewasher22.
The vessel 17 has its side walls or slots forming the same extended beyond the bottom at 23 and provided with slots 24, of a size slightly larger than the lugs 19. For resiliently disposing the wall 24 relatively to the lugs 19,
I dispose within the side walls 25 and 26, the angular members 27. These members comprise branches 28 and 29, the ends of whichinclude spurs 30. For disposing the elements 27 in position, the branch 29 en i 33, to inwardly direct the spurs 34 into the side walls 25 and 26 of the slot, at the same time maintaining the branch 28 slightly spaced from the walls 25 and 26, thereby forming the slot 2 1 slightly tapered by the angular position assumed by these members. It will be observed that to afiix these into position, the spurs 3% are driven into the side walls 25 and 26, respectively. In mounting the vessel upon the turntable, the slots 2 l will readily slip over the lugs 19 and serve, at the same time, to guide the stud 18 into the orifice 20. The addition of pressure will serve to force the lug 19 into the slot 24 and by reason of the angular position of the members 27 and particularly the branch 28 thereof, snug engagement of the slot and lug will be obtained. Engagement of the vessel 17' will thereby be had for rotation withthe turntable 12, the members 27, serving to take up any free movement and give resilient contact between these parts, thereby avoiding any breakage due to the clearance allowed between the slot and the engaging lug.
In using vessels of lighter weight, the position upon the turntable willbe more accurately assumed and prevent accidental displacement until the full contents are deposited within the vessel.
It will be further observed that I may form upon the turntable the upwardly extending flange 85, forming an annular space 36, into which the edge 23 of the vessel may be seated. It will be understood, however, that this flange 85 may be dispensedwith entirely, suitable engagement beinghad by the gasket 2 0 and the stud 18. It will thus be observed, by the structure, described, that I have provided a simple and efficient emulsifying apparatus and readily disengageable driving meansbetween a rotatable member and thevessel mounted thereon.
