EXERQISING DEVICE Filed March 30, 1928 10 is v .917 Z13 l 13 9 l0 l3; A I 1 7 I l0 l0 7 .9
20 20 I13 I Z0 Z1 7 l g I 0' 1 1| Walficpamzls Patented. July 29, 1930 PATEN OFFICE WALTER CECIL MILLS, F WABASI-I, INDIANA EXERGISING DEVICE Application filed March 30, 1928. Serial No. 266,022.
This invention has reference to an exercising device, and more particularly an exercising device in the form of a swing. I
The primary objectof the invention is to provide an exercising device including laterally and upwardly extended arms for supporting the swings, the arms being so constructed that they may be used as horizontal bars for exercising purposes.
Another object of the invention is to provide supporting bars having upwardly extended end portions acting as stops to prevent the hangers secured thereto, from displacement longitudinally of the bars.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter de- 20 scribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a perspective view on an en- 30 larged scale, illustrating one of the hangers.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device includes a standard or upright 5 which is anchored in the surface on which the exercising device is supported.
At the upper endofthe standard 5, is a head 6 mounted for rotary movement. Extending laterally and upwardly from the head 6,.
are arms 7, each of which includes a horizon tal section 8 terminating in an upwardly extendedend portion 9, which are supplied with caps 10.
Connected with the arms 7 ,are bars 11 that cross each other at points intermediate theends thereof, where they are secured as at 12 as so that outward movement of the arms under I the strain of weight on the swings, to be here- 6 and arms supported thereby,
and a lower section 15, the sections 14: and 15 having openings to accommodate the bolts 16 so that the sections may be moved into clamping relation with the arms to secure them against movement.
Forming a part of each lower section 15 are depending ears 17 which are apertured to receive the bolt 18, on which the end link 20 of the chain 21, associated therewith is piv otally mounted. Thus it' will be seen that due to this construction, the chains 21 which support the seats 22, will have a free swinging movement.
As shown by Figure 1, the outer hanger of each swing is supported, or positioned at a point adjacent to the upwardly extended end portion 9 of the arm on which the swing is supported, with the resultthat the upward ly extended end portions 9 of'the arms provide stops to prevent outward movement of the hangers, thereby insuring against the hangers working off of the arms.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that T due to this construction persons may seat themselves on the seats 22, and that by push- 7'5 ing on the ground surface may cause the head to revolve.
I claim: An exercising device comprising a supporting post, a head mounted on the upper end of the post, arms extending upwardly from the head, said armshaving horizontal sections terminating in upwardly sloping ends, pairs of circular clips positioned on the horizontal portions of the arms, each clip having a pair of integral depending ears, a I bolt connecting the ears of each pair, swings embodying chains having their end links positioned on the bolts, and disposed between the ears, andhorizontal'bars connecting the arms. I I
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature.
WALTER CECIL MILLS.
inafter more fully described, will be pre- 7 vented.
Mounted on each 50 each of which includes an upper section 14 arm are the'hangers 13,
