Description
July 29, 1930'. A. DE REPENTIGNY AIR DISTRIBUTOR FOR PAPER MAKING MACHINES Filed June 18, 1928 Patented July 29, 1930 UNITED STATES ARTHUR DE REPENTIGN'Y, on OTTA A, eminence Ana, A ssIe i To ARTHUR LA BRossn, or OTTAWA, daerniegea apn f A IR DISTRIBUTOR FOR PAPERV-MVAKILIVG irnoffiinns Application filed June 18, 192 s. Serial No. 286,430,:andin canaiianaicaie 1928.
My invention relates to improvements in air distributors for paper making machines,
Justed and regulated as desired so as to ob-v tain a uniform drying effect across the extreme width of the paper and thus obtain a better finish on the paper.
My invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts all as hereinafter more particularly described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a diagrammatic end View show ing the calender rolls of a paper machine with my improved air distributor associated therewith. i
Figure 2 is a top plan view of a portion of my improved device.
Figure 3 is a transverse section on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Figure 4L is a perspective view of my improved air distributor, one end thereof being broken away.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of aninner tube forming part of my improved air distributor, a portion at one end being broken away.
In ence indicate corresponding parts in the various views.
In the form illustrated, my invention con sists of an improved air distributor indicated collectively by the numeral 6. This air distributor comprises an inner tube 7 provided with a longitudinal slot 8 in one side thereof. Upon the inner tube 7 are mounted a number of sleeve sections 9, which sections 0 register with the slot 8 in the inner tube.
The sleeve sections 9-are retained upon the inner tube 7 by a collar 11 mounted upon the inner tube 7 adjacent to each end thereof.
The ends of the inner tube 7 are provided with coupling elements such as the threaded withthe slot 8.

as fastening to the collars llais aha-r13. Each sleeve section 9 carries a 1 pin -1 4;, which 'pins e Q POSi Q h 1S. hes eyetalented this ;pin strikes. against the bar 13-,when. the
slotlQ in the sleeve is in registration withthe slot-8 of the inner tubew 1 These pins and the bar 213 thus, constitute stop .means operable to limit 7 the rotation of the sleeves when the. slotsr101are in register In operatiommy improved 1 distributor is mounted adj acent; to one .of the calender rolls .15 elf a paper.:ma-kingmachineand is spaced slightly away from the roll and disposedparallel to the axis of the rolln Tll'e dGViGB-jS'jG mounted thatthe, slot 8 in; the inner-tube is directed towards the calender roll. 1 1' The paperpafssing.overthe calender rolls is indicated by the numeral 16. The air supply to the device is connected to the. coupling elements 12 at the ends ofthe inner tube so that when the slot 8 is uncoveredair is directed against the paper passing over the roll to accomplish the desirable drying effect.
It frequently happens that to obtain a uniform drying effect across the entire width of the paper, it would be a great advantage if the air supplyacross the width of the paper could be adjusted and regulated as desired and this control is conveniently provided in my device since the sleeve sections 9 are independently rotatable upon the inner tube 7 so that the slot 8 in the inner tube may be closed to the passage of air entirely, or shut ofi as may be desired at variouspoints across the width of the roll.
The pins 14 provide aconvenient stop I have devised an improved device of the class described whereby the objects of my invention have been attained. Various modifications may be made in my invention Without departing from the spirit thereof or the scope of the claiman'd thereforeithejeiiact form 7 shown is to betaliei'rias illustrative only and not in a limiting sense, and I desire that only such limitations shal l be p laced thereonias are imp'eed by the prier are 6r are speafieafly set forth in the a pended cl aifn.
