y Thisinvention relates'to devices for. producing and dispensing a liquidfor semiliquid composition, such as soap lather, and
,is in the nature of an improvement upon'my prior United States Letters Patent V'No. 1,489,999 and upon a copending application, `Serial No. 369,878, filed jointly by me and another..
The present invention broadly aims to gen- 1@ orally improve the structure of the previous devices above mentioned, in order to render the same more practical commercially. Y'
The invention seeks for one `of its objects to providemeans for agitating the soap and 15 water contained in the device'to produce the lather without the necessity of bodilyshakingthe same, as was previously required. l
The present invention further contemplates Y the use oi the agitating means asa stop for 20 limiting 'the inward movementof the `dispensing plunger, whereby to preclude any possibility foi' discharging the Vwater contained in the device `and to insure the dispensing of the lather only. y
The invention further comprehends an improved device ofthis character which is less Y expensive and more practical to produce and assemble, which is simpler in" its construction and modeV of use, which is more eificient 30 iny its purpose and more attractive in `itsappcarance. l Y l' With the above recitedV and other objects view, referencel is had to the following description and accompanyingd rawings, in 35 which there is exhibited one example or embodiment or 'the invention, While the-claims o define the `actual scope oi thesame; inthe drawings: i Y l Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device.V 0" liigure 2 is a vertical enlarged sectional viewtherethrough. i
1 Figure 8 is a horizontal sectional view through'. the u devicek taken approximately on thefline indicated at3-3 in FigureQ.
Referringtothedrawings by characters of o referencmf designates a cylindrical containl Yer vbodywhichisprovided atits upper end with anannul'ar inwardly extending shoulm 6r." `A bottom l? removably associated J "with the lower vend oi the body, and said 1930. serial No.44aso5l* bottom includes inner andvouter spaced concentric upstanding walls 8 and 9, the latter wall Qbeingof size to telescopically fit over theV lower end oftliebody 5. `The means for Vdetachably holding the bottom in associated relation with the body 5 preferably consists of n one orinore bayonet slotslO and Vpins 11, in
which the upperwalls 12 ofthe bayonet slots -are inclined so Vas toimpinge and clamp `a is rested on a heater casing C.
` As in the prior patent and application lreferred to, the device includes an axially movable plunger 15 having a'depending marginal wall 16, and the plunger is provided with an eccentric aperture'l? to receivea discharge "spout 18 which is removably associated `With `the apertured portion, and which discharge spout communicates with the interior of the container body through' the plunger 15. In
Vthe present instance, means is provided and concealed Within the container Vbody for nor tensioning the same against downward movement, and, as illustrated, said means is in the nature of a coiled expansion spring 19, the upper end convolution of which seats Within mally moving the plunger upward and `for groove 20`in the lower edge of the marginal liangeV` 16, and the lower end convolution of which Y'seats against an annular inwardly projecting bead 21st the lower free endpof the container body,`l"and which bead serves in the capacity of a plungerspring retaining seat over which'the lower end 'convolution'of the plunger spring 191s "forced,` it
being understood that 'the lower end convolution ofthe spring is of slightly greater normal diameter than, the remaining convolutions, sothat it must be initially contracted radiallyV topass through the restricted lowerend of thel container body where {subsequently expands radially vabove iand be hind the bead'ifl.
` In or er to` provide-means lordepressing the plunger against the action of the plunger Y ing opening 28.
spring19, a plunger shaft 22 is connected with and carried'by the plunger, preferably at the axial center thereof, and extends upwardly therefrom and is provided at its upper end with a head 23 having diametrically oppositely projecting manipulating handles or finger rests 24." The plunger 'shaft is preferably in the nature of a tube or hollow cylindrical shaft section which is formed with an exterior thread 25 at its lower end which threadedly engages within a threaded recess 26'in the plunger 15. The recess is further provided .with a bottom wall or flange 27 having a central bearing aperture 28 of f' reduced diameter with'respect to the internal diameter of the tubular shaft 22, and the head 23 at theupper endo'f the plunger shaft is also formed with a reduced bearing opening 29 of approximately the samesize as the bear- A reciprocatory agitator also forms apart of the present invention, and said agitator includes a shaft V30 vwhich extends axially through the plunger shaft 22 and the bearing openings 28and 29, and which plunger shaft is provided intermediate its ends with a collar3l constituting a spring seat-against which the upper end convolution of a spring 32 seats.. The spring 32 surrounds the agitatorshaft 30, is located'within the plunger shaft 22 and has its lower end convolution seated against the bottom wall or flange 27- of the recess 26 of the plunger and functions to normally movethe plunger shaft'30 upwardly f until the collar 3l contacts with a suitable packingmaterial 33V positionedwithin the upper endfof the plunger shaft 22 between its head 23 and the collar 3l. T he lower end of the agitator shaft 30carries anagitator `head or element 34 havingv suitable radial f.' preferably through ythe eccentric' a blades 35, and which agitator head or element 34 is assembled and maintained in place on the lowerreduced threaded end 36 of the agi tator shaft and against the shoulder`37v by means of ra retaining nut 38. rl`he upper end of the agitator shaft is provided with a maninulatorfhead or lbutton 39.V
ln' use and operation, 4water'vlV is introduced into the'containerbody 5to approximately the level indicatedinthe drawings, lerture 17 of the plunger after removal of the discharge spout. Soap, either in liquid, cake, cream or any other form, `isalso=introduced into the receptacle body 5, and the'discliarge spout 18 `replaced. The'lather is produced byrapidly Aandsuccessively pressing downwardly on the manipulator-liead- 39 ofthe agitator shaft and permittingthe spring 32 to project the agitator shaft 'and agitator head upwardly. Y This obviously agit-atesthe water andV soap and vproduces a quantity of lather which obviously flows upon or is bnoyed VupVby-the 1 water so that the lather is arranged in the upper portion of thereceptacle body 5T fl he Y lather is then dispensed by depressing the plunger l5 by engaging the fingers over the .manipulating handles or finger rests 24 provided on the head 23 at the upper end of the plunger shaft 22, the downward movement of the plunger functioning to express the desired quantity of lather from the receptacle body 5 through the discharge spout onto the hand of the barber or user, whereby it may be applied by the hand in lieu of using a shaving brush. The downward movement of the plunger is arrested or limited by contact of the lower end 3G of the agitator shaft with the top 14 of the inner wall 8 of the bottom structure, as it will be clearly understood that the downward thrust of the plunger will be impinged Yupon the packing 33, engaging with the collar 3l. Due to the fact that the packing 33 is necessarily slightly yieldable, the shock of the contact of the `end 36 of the agitator shaft will be cushioned.
F rom the foregoing construction, it is also apparent that the device may be readily and easily assembled without the necessity of employing any special tools or the services of expe-rt mechanics. The assembly of the parts israccomplished in approximately the following manner: The upper end of the agitator shaft withthe manipulator head or button removed is inserted through the lower end of the plunger shaft 22 after the packing .has been initially introduced into the plunger shaft and the manipulator head or button 39 is then attached; next, the spring 32 is engaged over the projecting lower end of the agitator shaft 30 and inserted into the plunger shaft 22 until its upper end convolution engages vthe spring seat or collar 3l; the lower end of the agitator' shaft is next inserted through thebearing opening 28 in the bottom wall orvflange 27 of the plunger 15 and the exteriorly threaded lower end 25 of the plunger shaft is then threadedly engaged within the internally threaded recess 26; the agitator head 34 is vthen positioned over the reduced threaded lower end 36 of the agitator shaftinto engagement with the shoulder 37,
and the nut 38 is applied to clamp the agivolution automaticallyseats withinthe groove 20 at the lower edge of the marginal flange 16 of the*plunger, while 'the lower end convolution of the spring is snapped beyond and over the annular inwardly projectingbead 2l at the lower free end-of the container body. rlhe bottom 71s then applied as previously explained,- and the'rdispensing or disch-arge spfoutQlS is next connected with the apertured portion l@ of the Vplunger so that' theY device is ready for use. It willthusv be seen that lil() lli) employed for mixing and dispensing liquid or semiliqu`id compositions embodying any ingredients.
d While there has been illustrated a preferred form of the invention, it is to be understood vthat iio'restriction is intended to the precise structuraldetails, and that variations and modifications which properly :tall within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when u found desirable.
