5. In a machine for packing cigarettes into a packet, a pusher for transferring cigarettes from one feed band to successive feed 7 bands and means on said pusherto increase the spread thereof during a portion of the pusher movement.

6. In a machine for packing cigarettes into a packet, a pusher for feeding cigarettes to the packet, said pusher being formed with a lateral extension movable into and out of operative position and means for operating said pusher extension located adjacent the path of travel of said pusher.

In a machine for packing cigarettes into a packet, a pusher for feedin cigarettes to said packet from successive y stepped feed bands, means on said pusher to increase the spread thereof during a portion of the pusher movement and means for automatically lowering said pusher to engage vsaid cigarettes on said successively stepped feed bands. p

In a machine for packing cigarettes into a packet, a pusher adapted to feed group of cigarettes to said packet, a lateral extension on said pusher and means for moving said extension intoand out of operative position during the operation of said pusher, whereby layers comprised of different numbers of cigarettes may be engaged by said pusher.

9. In a device as per claim 8, in which said means for moving said extension includes a roller carried by sald extension, a cam bar disposed in the path of said roller and means for urging said roller against said cam bar. 1 V
