Description

' eral groove as at 13, the purpose of which latented July 1 1930 UNITED STATES PATENTnOFFlCE HARRY M. KORETZKY, OF HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR T0 BRIGHT STAR BAT- TERY COMPANY, INC., 0F IFKOIBOKIEillYl', NEW JERSEY, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK FLASH LIGHT Application filed June 19,
This invention relates to flashlights and has for an object a simple, efficient, inexpensive and improved spare bulb holder. A flashlight embodying the invention comprises a tubular casinghaving a base cap threaded to one end, the base cap having an interior peripheral groove. The spare bulb holder comprises a resilient metal strip having its ends extending into a peripheral groove and being provided with an off-set central portion. Clips are struck out of the centralportion and are adapted frictionally to receive the base of the spare bulb. In order to re move the holder from the base cap the holder is compressed to withdraw its ends from the peripheral groove after which it may be easily lifted out.
Other objects, novel features, and advantages of this invention will be apparent from 1 the following specification and accompanyj! lamp-carrying cap 11 and'to the other end of which is threaded the base cap 12. The base cap 12 is provided with. an interior periphwill. be later apparent.
WVithin the base cap 12 is provided a spare bulb holder which comprises a resilient metal strip 14 having its central portion off-set and its ends slightly upturned. Clips 15 are struck out from the central portion of the member 14 and are arranged Within the ofiset portion to receive and frictionally hold a spare bulb 16. The upturned ends of the spare bulb holder extend into the groove 13 and maintain the holder in proper position.
A helical spring 17 has one or more turns passed around the bridge of the holder formed by striking out the clips 15 and has one end projecting upwardly from the holder. When the base cap is assembled with the tube 10 this spring 17 acts as a yielding sup- 1923. Serial No. 286,604.
port for thebattery 18 with which the flashlight is equipped. 1
When it is desired to get at the spare bulb the base cap is removed from the casing and the holder gripped between the thumb and forefinger and compressed towithdraw the ends thereof from the groove 18. The holder may then easily be lifted out of the base cap after which the spare bulb may be removed from the clips 15 merely by pulling i it out. i g
It is of course apparent that various structural modifications may be made in the above described spare bulb holder without in any Way departing from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
a I claim:
In a flashlight, a base cap having a peripheral groove a spare bulb holder comprising a resilient strip having upturned ends extending into said groove and held therein solely by the resiliency of said strip and an offset central portion, clips struck out from said central portion and extending toward the end portions for frictionally gripping the base of a bulb, and a battery-engaging resilient helix carried by said offset central portion.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
HARRY M. KORETZKY.
