' JOHN ease, or EL rns mnxas jivozznn Application filed. July 2,1927}, Serial N'o. 203,177,
This invention relates to improvements in nozzles and has for an object. the provision of a nozzle which is especially adapted for cleaning locomotive and'other boilers.
5 In the ordinary method of cleaning boilers it is necessary that the workmen be positioned substantially beneath the boiler opening and the workmen are thus in'the pat-hot the water which runs out of this opening.
The workmen'are frequently burned or scalded in this position, and-their clothes quickly become wet, with the resultwthat many workmen contract serious, illnesses. 1
Itisthereforethe primary objectof the invention to provide a clean-out nozzle whose adjustment is suchthat access may be conveniently had toallparts of the boiler with-' out danger of burning or scalding the work- II1fl11,-tll6 character of the invention being.
theinvention further includes the tollowing novel features and details of construction, to.
be hereinafter more fullyfdescribed, illustrated inthe accompanyingdm i and 7 Q 0 i I cond tions andto facilitate man1pulat1' n f 7 the nozzle;
pointed out in the appended. claims.

Figure 2, is an-elevation at right angles to Figureli y i r Figure 3 1s a top plan view V .i
-9 Referring to the drawings detail where mlike characters of reference denote Corresponding parts, the reference character "10 indicates a pipewhich is adapted-to supply i water to the nozzle 11; This nozzle hasits orifice disposed axially at the end of the nozzle and isadapte'dfor insertion through any one of the openings in the boiler after the plugs have been removed. The nozzle is capable ot'being adjusted to directwaterl to; v difierentpartsof the water space, such as j the thr at sheet, crownsheet, or otherordinarily' inaccessible spaces: u
To accomplish'thi the pipe 10 has extendmg therefrom, a rightangled portion or elbow 10?, which is connected to the nozzle by means of a swiveled joint 12, with which the-stem ofthe nozzle s in axial alinement. The nozzlemay be arranged vertically so as to direct. the spray. forwardly, or laterallyyorthenozzle may lee-arranged horizontally and the spray directed eitherupwardor downward;
By this means thejspraywill reachinto all parts of the boiler and'the lattermay bethor I oughl y cleaned. 1 5 1 For the purpose of manipulating then'ozzle, the latter has connected thereto warm 13 which extends' at-right angles from the nozzle stemfand pivotally connected to "this arm is one end ofa rod 14:, the said rod being preferably r providedwith a ring or,loop-'15 7.0 I I r at its opposite end to provide a'handle or grip. 1
Thus, the nozzlemaybe inserted throughany of the wash-outopenings after the plugs have been removed, and the nozzle may be rotated throughthe medium of the rod l t with the J operator. remaininga suflicient distance away fromthe opening to prevent-burning orscalding," or wetting. a
the latter is secured to thenozzle' by'means of a setscrew 13*, Thus the arm may be ad- The} invention is susceptible of various changes inits 'form proportionsand minor details of constructionand the right is here} in reserved to make suchchanges as properly fall withinthe. scope of the appended claims. 90 I Having described the invention what is claimed is:. 1. A'clean out nozzlejfor boilers comprising incombination, a supply pipe having a right-angled extension at one end, a substan- I tially L-shaped nozzle adapted for removable insertion'through the clean out opening of a boiler and having a: relatively long stemarranged in axial alinementwiththe outer end of the'rig'ht angled extension,a'swivel con- 1.90

nection between said extension and stem whereby said stem may be rotated axially with respect to the rightangled extension of the supply pipe, an arm having one end sel cured to the stem of the nozzle and extend inget a right angle to said stem, and an operating rod to the outer end of the annto adjust the position of the discharge end of the nozzle.
2. A clean out nozzle for boilers compris aving one end pivotally connected.
inain-combinatiOme supply pipe having a.

t angled extension atone end, a substantially L-sheped nozzle adapted for insertion'through the clean out opening of a boiler and having'a relatively long; stem arranged in axial allnement withithe outer end of the right angled extension and a relatively short right angled discharge end with its discharge Orifice. disposed at a right angle with respect I to the stem, a swivel connection between said extension and stem with the extension in Slinement with the stem, whereby said maybe rotated axially with respect to the tightan gled extension of the supply pipe. 35 an inn having one end secured to the stem of the noz'zlevand extending at a rightangle to mid stem and an operating rod having one s y connected to the outer end of manua to adiust the position of the vdis- 1n ehnrgeend oft e' nozzle and means to secure E118 arm to the stem to permit of rotary odjnstment of said arm uponsaid stem.
