PATENT OFFIGE CHAMBERLAIN, .OF WEST BOXBURY, MASSACHUSETTS,
ASSIGNOR TO EDMUND D. CHAMBERLAIN.
IMPROVEMENT lN HAND-STAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,837, dated May 2, 1876; application filed March 21, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DEXTER H. CHAMBER- LAiN. of West Roxbury, Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand-Stamps, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective View of my new stamp. Fig. 2 is a side elevation with the cap raised. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section.
My inventionrelates to that class of hand: stamps known as dating-stamps; and it consists in a construction by which the top of the .stamp, ribbon, ribbon-boxes, and die may be readily removed, so as to expose the printingwheels, and allow them to be readily handled and adjusted.
To enable others skilledin the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe theexact mannerin which I have carried it out- I In the drawings, A represents the boxing .or cap of my improved stamp; B, the baseplate, provided with the rear wall I), to which is hinged or pivoted the cap A, as shown in Fig. 2. The cap is made of suflioient depth to cover the printing-wheels and rest on the base-plate B. Within the cap are journaled the spindles for holding the ribbon, so that when the cap is raised, as shown inFig. 2, the top of the stamp, ribbon, ribbon-boxes, and
'die are all raised with it, and the printingwheels U, secured to the base-plate B, are left entirely exposed, so that the wheels can be 3. The hinged cap A, constructed as described, and carrying the top of the stamp, ribbon, ribbon-spindles, and die, in combination with the printing-wheels 0, attached .to
the base-plate of a hand-stamp,substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
