TALLY CARD Appncationvniea Jun-e 6, 1929. seriai Nb.' 368,953.
This invention relates generally to the class of indicating devices, and refers more particularly to an improvement in tally cards which are especially designed for use y in connection with card games, suchvk as bridge-whist, in which'the players are arralinged at a number of tables for progressive p ay.
. The invention primarily comprehends an improved tally card which simultaneously indicates the number of games played, the tables at which and the-partnerswith whom each player is to play. A
More specically, the invention conte1nplates a tally card which is provided with stationary and movable elements presenting surfaces inscribed with indicia adaptedV to be lselectively vdisplayed or pointed out to obtain vthe indications above referredto upon relative movements of the elements.
' Other objects of the invention reside'in thesimplicity of construction of the tally, the economy with which it may be produced and thelgeneral attractiveness and eiiiciency derived therefrom.'
With the above recited and other objects in' view, reference is had to the following description and yaccompanying drawings, in which there is exhibited one example or embodiment of the invention, while the claims define'the actual scope of the same.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a face Vview ofthe tally.
Figure 2 is a' sectional view therethrough taken approximately on the line indicated at 2 2 in Figure 1. Y
Figure 3 is a blank view of the outer ele ment or section. f f i Figure 4 is a similar view of the inner rotatable element.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, outer section or elementdesig nated generally by the reference character A is constructed from'a single sheet of material which is' cut and folded along an intermediate transverse folded line 5 to provide front andV rear walls or panels 6 and 7, the former being provided with a central substantially 'circular yopening 8, Vconcentrically of which an apertured bearing 9 is supported by means of a radial arm 10, which bearing and arm preferably form an integral part of the strip from which the panel or wall 6 is constructed. `The wall or panel 6 is further provided with a window opening 11. The outer or front face or surface of the panel or wall 6 is provided with. an annular `concentric series of indicating characters or indices 12, such as numerals, which may simulate, in effect, a clock dial. The arm 10 mayV also be printed, engraved and shaped to represent'the minutehand of a clock, as illustrated. The'inner or front face or surface of the rear panel or wall 7 is provided with a central aperture 13 which .coincides with the central aperture14 of the bearing 9, and said face will be inscribed with suitable characters or indices 15 arranged in annular'concentric relation to the central aperture 13 and radially spaced therefrom to be disposed at a point within the circular opening 8 in 'the' front panel or wall when the same is folded to the parallel position illustrated in Figures 1 and 2. A rotary or relatively movable section designated generally by the reference character B, is provided which is cut from a sheet ofmaterial and which is preferably of circular formation to provide a disk adapted to be arranged between the front and rear panelsor walls 6 and 7 of the first mentioned section or element A. The section B is provided with a concentric aperturel 16 which is designed to be aligned with apertures 18 and 14 of the walls or leaves 6 and 7 after which a fastener 17 is passed through the apertures 13, 14 and 16 to rotatably associate the section B with the section A between the leaves or panels 6 and 7 thereof. The section B is provided with a substantially sector shaped peripheral notch 18, one wallof which notch is formed with a projection 19 suitably shaped to provide a pointer of such a length that its terminal extends slightly beyond the circular opening '8 to vcoact with ,the characters or'indicia 12 on the face of the leaf'or panel 6.V The. notch v18 serves yas a window opening through which the characters or indicia l'are selectively displayed upon rotation of the section ordisk B. The projec-l tion 19 and the adjacent portion of the disk B may be printed or otherwise shaped to represent the hour hand of a clock, as illustrated in the drawings. The disk or section B is of a diameter to provide an annular portion a Which is visible through the Window opening 11 in the front leaf or panel 6 and the portion is formed With an annular concentric series of indicating characters or numerals 20 which are designed to be selectively displayed upon rotation ofthe disk.
ln practice, the indicia or characters 12 represent the numberV ofthe game being ciated that the indiciav 12l with Which the pointer 19 cooperates may be used to indicate either the game number or the table number While the indicia 2Ov may either represent the table number, the game number or the partner .with Whom the holder of the tally vis to'play the game. To start with, the dial or section B is 'turned so that the pointer 19 is arranged to indicate the character represented as No. 1 on Figure 1.
After the first game has been played, the disk or section B is turned in aclockvvise direction so that the pointer 19 points to the character No. 2, as illustrated in Figure 1. This simultaneously displays the character 12, as Well as the character 20, which regopening 11.
isters with the notch 18 and the Window t is, therefore, apparent that each operation simultaneously. sets the tally Without the necessityV of a numberrof operations or'adjustments. It is also to be assumed thatV a tally Will be provided for each player appropriately provided With the indicia so that the selection of partners for the particular games to be played land thertables at Which the games are to be played Will be automatically indicatedjby ythe tallys. l It Will alsobeunderstood that the rear surface or face of the rear leaf Wall orpanel affords' a space for Writing in scores and computing the total.
What is claimed is: Y
