ments in Harvesters; and We do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Thisinvention relates to the class of harvesters known as headers; and the object of it is to avoid the difficulty heretofore experienced in adjustin g the cutters to enable them to out high grain; and the invention consists of an adjusting-lever, having a reversible auxiliary arm or link connected to the main frame, in combination with a standard attached to an extension of the tongue, constructed and operated so that the cutters can be elevated to out very high grain; also, of a belt-tightener, consistingvof slotted plates, belt-roller, set-screw, and standard, constructed and combined with the front beam ofthe machine, as will hereinafter be. more the end of lever A, their oppositeends being,

made to embrace and have a pivotal connection with a fixed block, 01, attached to the front beam 0 of the machine. The tongue is provided with theusual adjustable tillerwhcel E and lever-standard 01, having the usual holes to receive a pin for securing the lever A. FG are the slotted plates, pivoted together at e. Plate G is provided with the belt-roller h, adjustable by means of a setscrew in the slot, and pivoted at its lower end to the front beam of the machine. Plate F is attached by a set-screw, t, to a fixed standard, It. These plates, as thus arranged, can be so adjusted, by moving plate F or the belt-roller up or down, as to secure the tightening of the belt for running the grain-carrier with the greatest nicety.

The arrangement of the adjusting-lever with the fulcrum-standard and extension of the tongue allows the frame to be shortened,

-so as to leave only space enough for the wheels to revolve in between the rear and front cross-beams.

The operation of the adjusting-lever is as follows: When desiring -to out very high grain, lever A is released from the standard cl, and the end thrown up,.so as to reverse or 'throw down auxiliary arm B. (See operation of the same in dotted lines of Fig. 1.) In this position the lever can be made to elevate the cutters so as to out very high grain.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. An adjusting-lever, having'a reversible auxiliary arm or link connected to the main frame, in combination with a standard attached to .an extension of the tongue, substantial] y as and for the purpose set forth.

2. In a harvesting-machine, the belttightener, consisting of the slotted plates F G, adjustablebelt-roller h, set-screw i, and standard stantially as set forth.
