- TELEPHONE PAD ATTACHMENT June 24, 1930.
' Fild March 14, 1929 25 drawings in which Patented June 24,- 1930 HARRY 11 urban AND IBERNABD Ii. 301333, or OHICAGO,.-ILLINOIS rnLEPnonE-rm arraortmin'r Application filed larch 14,
This invention relates to telephone pad attachmentsand it hasfor its ob ect to pro vide means forslidably mounting a pad con sisting of memorandum sheets, index or directory sheets, or advertising sheets on the base of a telephone desk set to be accessible while using the telephone as well as at other times. i
Another object of the invention is to pro:
vide a pad attachment whichzcan be easily mounted on the base of a telephone desk set in a convenient and inconspicuous position and where it will not interfere with the'use" of the receiver while still being accessiblefor use by one using the telephone.
And a further object-of-the invention is' to provide a pad attachmentwhich is adapted to be used as a base for the telephone'desk set and in which the pad is slidably mounted 0 so that it can be adjusted for extending the pad into operative positionat any point about the telephone. j
We have illustrated the invention .in a se-- lected embodiment in the accompanying .Fig. 1 is an elevation showing the invention embodied in a telephone desk set ofv the French or cradle type with the pad slide extended in position for use.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the with the pad slide extended;
Fig. 3 is a bottom planview of the attachment.
Referring to the drawings our invention is shown applied as a base to the support of a telephone desk set. .We have shown it applied to the support 4 of a telephone desk set of the French or cradle type but it can be. just as well applied to'the old fashioned desk set in the same manner. The invention comprises a cylindrical base 5 which has a bottom plate 6 and a supporting plate 7 the latter being located below the top of the base to form a s'eat for the bottom of the support of the telephone desk set. This support is provided with a'bottom cushion 8 which fits snugly in the seat in the base. The support 4 of the French or cradle type of telephone. desk set is not lifted like the old fashioned attachment desk set when the telephone is used and no use. Serial 1T0. amen.
fastening devices are required for securing the base to the support, but when the invention is applied to a telephone desk set of the old fashioned type it will bedesirable to provide'screws or other suitable means for securing the base to the support of the desk set so that it will be carried with the support in the use of the "telephone. Suitable cushion b uttonst) may be provided on-the bottom plate toengage a desk or table upon which the telephone is placed. The base has a slot 10 to receive the pad carrier 11 which is slid able through the slot into closed position as 7 indicated in broken lines in Fi L2, and also in Fig. 3, and into open position igs. 1 and 2. This'carrier has button uides 12 on its bottom, which may be in tale form of screws, and which travel in guide slots 13 in the bottom plate to guide the pad carrier and limit the movement thereof. The pad carrier has upstanding sides 14 and an overhanging flange 15 to receive and hold a pad 16 and it also has a handle 17 to facilitate the movement of the carrier. Tubular holders 18 are arranged in the base to receive pencils 19 alongsidelthe sliding carrier in convenient position for use. i
' The invention .is made of a size and shape to neatly fit and form a base for the support of a telephone desk set and it can be made of metal or any other material suitable for the purpose and harmonize in color and general configuration with that of the telephone set. The invention does not in any way interfere with the mechanical or electrical parts of the telephone desk set and the carrier. can be operated while the set is being used.- The base can be adjusted to any position relative to the support so that the desk set can be used in the usual manner and the invention can be adjusted as required for accessibility.
It is the primary intention to provide a pad on the slidable carrier for ordinary memoranda and this pad may carry advertising or other printed matter. Or the pad may be in the form of a small telephone directory or index or it may be made up in any form and for any purpose. The pad is fitted on the carrier between the sides 14 and 100 is held in place by the flange 15 and new ads may be easily inserted as required. D
We have shown the invention in a simple form which is entirely satisfactory for the purpose but changes in the material andcin the form, construction and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit or sacrificing the advantages of the invention, and we reserve the right to make all such changes as fairlyfall within the scope of the following claim.
We claim: v An attachment for a telephone desk set comprising a circular member including a bottom wall and an annular upstanding wall,
said bottom wall havin parallel slots therein, tubular guide memEers adapted to hold pencils therein extending acro$ said circular member as chords of the circle thereof and y connected at spaced points to said annular wall, said guide members being arallel to said slots, said circular member ving an opening therein, a slide movable through said opening and disposed between andguided by said guide members, and button guides on said slide disposed in said slots to limit the movement of said slide through said opening.
