It occasionally happens that the shuttle will not be properly boXed when transfer is about to take place and vas a result a bobbin is likely to be broken. It is an important object `of my present invention to interpose between the reciprocating rod and the transferrer arm a form of connection which may be interrupted whenever the shuttle is `improperly placed so as to prevent descent of the transferrer arm.
With these and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the combination and arrangement o parts hereinafter described'and set 44forth in the claims. i

Therod 18 is operated by mechanism not shown herein but set 'forth in priorpatent vto lyon, No. 1,372,316, said rod being given a quick downward movement` when the shuttile S is on the magazine side of the loom so as -to'present the detector to the yarn in the shuttle.- The detector `and also the function of the transferrer arm under normal conditions is substantially the same as set forth in said patent to Ryoir` There .is `secured to the loom Vframe 10 the base 2O of a combined shuttlefeeler and filling stop motion, said base having spaced vertical walls 21 between which .slide a carrier 22 having mountedon the rear end thereof a shuttle positioning roll 23. A plunger 24 has the rear end in engagement wit-hthecarr'ier and thefor'ward -end extends through a stationaryguide 25. Acoil spring 26 is interposed between a rear part ofthe carrier land the ixed guide and serves to hold the carrier yieldingly in rearward position.
Under normal conditions when the shuttle is properly vbored the, inner end thereof will clear the roll 23,-but i'li the shuttle be slightly V,misplaced said roll will engage therounded endof the shuttle, and serve to push the latter `into the box, thev compression spring 2G being strongenoughto accomplish this result.
If, on the other hand, the shuttle be so widely misplaced that the roll engages a portion of the shuttle which is substantially parallel to the reed the carrier will move forwardly as a whole against the act-ion of the spring 26. The shuttle placer and its manner of operation is substantially the same as that shown in prior patent to Ryon, No. 1,549,221, to which reference may be had for a more completeunderstanding of the operation of the shuttle placer and revoker.k As shown in said later patent to Ryon forward movement of the carrier is effective to stop the loom, Vbut this-feature is not carried into my present construction,- as I'ma'ke` use of the forward movement ofthe carrier to act as a revoker to prevent operation of the transferrer lever 15.
The stand 12 is part ofa magazine indicated generally at M. `said magazine being provided with a'forward` stationary bobbin support and a rear yielding `bobbm support 31. These supports are so located that they will hold a bobbinin transfer position as indicated in dot anddash lines in Fig. 2. The magazine may be substantially thesameas set forth in the first named Ryon patent and it is not believed necessaryto show herein how the bobbin B arrives in the position shown in Fig. 2. It is sufficient for the purposes of my present invention to state that the bobbin which is to be 'inserted in the depleted shuttle will move to the position shown in Fig. 2 while the transferrer arm 15 is elevated and will beso placed 4asto be moved by the latter into the depleted shuttle.
A releasing lever 32 may be pivoted as at 33 to a fixed part of the magazine and engages a cam surface 34 formed on part of the movable support 31. 'By means of a rod 35 which may be connected to any regularly moving part of the loom, such as the picking motion, the lever 32 may be given an operative movement to draw the support 31 rearwardly at regular intervals, preferably on the lirst backward stroke of the lay after a ydetecting movement on the part of the transferrer arm. The mechanism for moving the support 31 rearwardly is substantiallysimilar in operation and function to the structure shown in prior patent to Gordon,V No. 932,119. i
The matter thus vfar described maybe as set forth in the previously named patents and forms no part of my present invention. In carrying my invention` into effect I provide mechanism operable by the slide or carrier 22 to disrupt thenormal connection between the'rod 18 andthe transferrer arm 15. In carrying my invention into effect I pivot an actuator lever 40 to the transferrer arm by means of a stud 41.l If desired said stud may project beyond the transferrer arm to the left as shown in Fig. 4 and have therearound a compression spring 42 which lies between the head 43 of the stud and the transferrer lever. The spring normally holds the nut 44 on the right end of the stud against the actuator lever 40. Ak control plunger 45 extends through the holder stud 13 and enters a hole 46 formed in the forward end of the actuator lever. Said plunger is concentric with the axis of the transferrer lever so that when the plunger is in the hole 46 as shown in Fig. 3 vertical reciprocations of the rod 18 will be communicated to the transferrer lever by means of the actuator lever.
An arm 50 is securedto the left hand end of the plunger 45 as shown in Fig. 3 and has a pin 51 which receives one end ofatension spring 52 the other end of which is fixed with respect to the stand 12 by means of a second pin 53. .The function of the spring 52 is to hold the rod or plunger 45 in the opening 46. A verticalstud 54'is secured to the stand 12 and affords pivotal support for the hub of a lever 55 one armv56 of lwhich is forked as shown in Fig. 5 to surround the plunger 45 and also toeXtend into engaging position with the arm 50. Said lever 55 is provided with a second arm 57 positioned for engagement with the upstanding finger 58 of an adjustable trip 59. The trip is provided with a slot 60 to permit adjustment of the same'with respect to the carrier 22 and is held to the latter by means of a screw 61. A stop pin 62 extending upwardly from the stand 12 engages the arm 57 to limit movement of the same in a right hand direction around stud 54 under infiuence of spring 52.
Under normal conditions-when the shuttle is being boxed properly the carrier 22 will remain at rest and the spring 52 will act through the arm 50 to hold the right hand end of the plunger 45 as viewed in Figs. 1 and 3 inthe opening 46 in the actuator lever 40. Because of the fact thatthe plunger 45 is concentric with ythe axis of the transferrer arm the latter together with the actuator lever is free to move about the aXis of the transferrer arm under influence of the reciprocating rod 18. The plunger, actuator lever and transferrer lever and also the rod 18 remain related as shown in full lines in Fig. 2 so long as the carrier remains at rest rand in rearward position. Should the shuttle be misplaced when onv the magazine end of. the loom, during the forward beat of the lay end, but so far out of the boX as not to be placed by the roll 23, the carrier 22 will move forwardly to cause the finger 58 of the trip 59 to engage the arm 57 and move the same in a counter-clockwise direction around vstud 54 to the dotted line position shown in Fig. 3. This movement is accompanied by a movement to the left on the part of the forked arm 56, thereby causing the arm 50 and stud to move to the left of the dotted line position shown-in Fig. 3. The plunger 45 is thereupon withdrawn from the opening 46 and the rod 18 in4 descending will cause rocking movement o the actuator lever 4:() with respect to the transferrer arm to cause `said actuator lever to assume the dotted line 70 and va lixed lug 73. The rod l8will therefore be free to move downwardly under action of the cam not shown without causing descent on the part of the transferrer lever. The detector D will consequently beheld out of engagement with any portion of the shuttle which might damage it due to the act that the shuttle is misplaced, and if a bobhin is in transfer position it will not be forced'against a misplaced shuttle:
As the lay the misplaced shuttle with it and the spring 26 will move the carrier 22 rearwardly, thereby relieving the forked arm 56, freeing spring 52 so that the latter may tend to move the vplunger 45 toward the actuator lever. At a later tilnein the cycle of the loom the rod 18 will be raised and during this upward movement the left hand end of the actuator lever `as viewed in Fig. 2 will be moved so 'as to bring the opening Lloopposite the plunger 45, whereuo'pn spring 52 will urge said plunger into the opening, thus reestabllishing normal relations between the parts.
If a bobbin 'remains untransfer'red because lof the previously described operation of the carrier it will be relievedbefo're the transferrer arm moves `down on anormal beat of the loom through the action of the releasing lever 32. This result is particularly desirable on multicolor looms where a mixing of the 'colors ivouldotherwise result, but it is not considered essentialin single color work.
From the foregoingA it will be seen that I have provided means associated withA the trai'isferrer arm for preventing downward movement ofthe latter when the shuttle is misplaced. It will also be seen that after the operating parts are disconnected they will automatically be restored at a subsequent point in the cycle of operation of the "rod 18.

actuator havingregular movements in oppositedirections, a pair of members one of which is effective to'cause a transfer of bobbins in the mechanism andthe other of which is operatively'connected to the actuator, a pivotal connection between said members, a second pivotspaced from said pivotal connection and around which the members normallyl move, said vsecond pivot being in two vparts, one movable with respect to .the other and having-operative engagement with the member operativelyconnected to the actuator, and meansoperative when a shuttle' is misplaced to move the parts of thcsecond pivot with respect to eachother softhat the member operatively connected to the actuator isdisconnected from the second pivot and moves with theactuator relatively to the transferrer arm while the latter remains substantially at'rest.

In a weft replenishing mechanism, an actuator having regularvmovements in op- -posite directions, a pair of members one of whichk is effective tocause a ktransfer of bobbins in the mechanism and the other of which is operatively connected to the actuator,'a pivotal connection between said members, a second pivot spaced from said pivotal connection and around which the members norlmally move, said second pivot being yin two parts, one movable with respect to the lother and having operative engagement with Athe member operatively connected to the actuator, means operative When a shuttle is misplaced to move the parts of the second pivot with respect to eachother so that the member operatively connected to the actuator is when the shuttle is misplaced, said members under these conditions moving with respect to each other, the member to effect transfer remaining substantially at rest While the other member moves with the actuator, and
disconnected from the second pivot and yielding means tending normally to move moves With the actuator relatively to the transferrer arm While the latter remains substantially at rest, and means to limit down- Ward movement of the transferrer arm.

In a Wett replenishing mechanism, a regularly moving actuator, a pair of members capable of relative movement with respect to each other under kabnormal condie tions but normally moving in unison, one of said members effective to cause a transfer of bobbins and the other member operatively connected to the actuator, means normally requiring said members to move togetherV under influence of the actuator Without relative movement with respect to each other, and` mechanism eiective when the shuttle is misplaced to move said means to release one of said members so that the same may move with the actuator While the member to effect transfer of bobbins remains substantially at rest. In a weft replenishing mechanism, an actuator having a regularly recurring movement, a pair oij members capable of relative movement With respect to eachother under abnormal conditions but normally moving in unison, a pivot dened by two coaxial elements, one of said elements constituting the pivot around which one of said members moves and the other element constituting the center aroundV Which the other member moves, said members under normal conditions moving around said coaxial elements under iniiuence of the actuator, and means to move said elements with respect to each other so that one of said members is Without a pivotal connection With respect to either element when the shuttle is misplaced, said members under these conditions 4moving with respect to each other, the member to eect transfer remaining substantially at Vrest While the other member moves With the actuator. i
