GEORGE F. MULLER, OE SEWIOKLY, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT-IN FURNITURE-TIPS.
' Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,668, dated -Apri125, 1876; application filed k 1 October 20, 1875. v
To all whom it mag/concern:
. vBe it known that I, GEORGE FREDERICK j Mi'ILLER, of Sewickly, county of Allegheny,
State of Pennsylvania, have invented or discovered a new and useful Improvement in AntiFriction Furniture-Tips; and Idohereby declare the following to be a full, clear, concise, and exact description thereof, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification, in which like letters indicate like parts.
The nature of my invention relates toa'device for reducing thefrictionexistin g between the bottom of the legs of chairs,'tables, or other articles of furniture, and thefloor or carpetupon which they are placed and moved and my inventionf consists in the arrange-' inent and combination of parts, as hereafter described and claimed. k v
v To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the exact manner in which I have carried it out.
' y In the drawings,Figure 1 represents a tableleg with my improvement attached. Fig.
7.2.represents an elastic washer, and Fig. 3
shows a detached tip ready for being screwed to the leg of the table.
The tip 0 represents a hemisphere, the spher- I ical side of which comes in contact with the floor, while theflat side fits against the lower point of the'leg of thechair or table, without requiring any. fitting thereto. In the center of the flat portion of the tip is secured the screw E by any of the well-known means.
The elastic packing or washer -F isplaced next to the wooden leg, and then the tip is screwed in' position. The spherical shape of the tip allows it to slide easily over a floor or carpet without injury to either. It can be made of metal, wood, glass, or any other 'desirable material. 4
I am aware it is not new to fit. sliding tips upon furniture-legs, as the same is shown in the patent to Ed. Ooogan, patented November 10, 1868 but heretofore such tipsrequired mechanical skill to fit them to the furniture,
which objection it is the design of my invention to avoid. y
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- As a new article of manufacture, the solid antifriction furniture-tip G, hemispherical in form,'and provided with the screw E, secured to its flat surface, substantially as and for the purpose setforth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand. 1 7
e. F. MULLER.
