SPRING TOOTH MOUNTING FOR CULTIVATORS Filed July 12, 1928 Patented June 24, 1930 UNETED' STATES GEORGE J. MILLER, 01? MANKATO, MINNESOTA SPRING-TOOTH MOUNTING FOB, GULTIVA'I'ORS Application filed July 12, 1928.
This invention relates to a novel construction of a spring tooth mounting for cultivators, whereby the spring teeth can be quickly and conveniently attached to the harrow subsequent to the removal of the usual cultivator shoes, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this applilo cation like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation of a cultivator showing the spring teeth associated therewith in accordance with the pres ent invention.
Figure 2 is an end elevation of one of the mountings showing how it is used.
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional View through the mounting.
Figure at is a view of one part thereof. Referring to the drawing in detail 10 inclicates generally a cultivator of well known construction while 11 represents the beams or supports for the usual cultivator shovels (not shown).
In Figures 2 to 4 inclusive 1 have illustrated what 1 term a spring tooth mounting capable of being used to associate a spring tooth with each support 11 subsequent to the removal of the cultivator shovel therefrom. The mounting includes two companion sections 12 and 13 respectively, the adjacent faces of which are serrated or roughened as at 14 to prevent relative movement between the parts after they have been adjusted to set the tooth in a proper position with relation to the ground, it of course being manifest that the tooth is supported by the sect-ion 13. These two sections are connected together by means of a headed bolt 15 which projects from the section 12 and is adapted to be passed through an opening in the particular support 11, after which a nut 16 is threaded on the bolt to firmly attach the mounting. Projecting from the section 13 is a tubular extension 17 having aligned openings to accommodate a cross bolt 18, and this bolt is utilized to secure the curved extremity 19 of the tooth 20 to said extension. The curved extremity 19 Serial No. 292,064.
reason of this construction it is obvious that the cultivator can be quickly and easily con. verted into a spring tooth harrow, and that the teeth can be very quickly and easily attached to or removed from the supports 11 as the occasion may require.
While it is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it known that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
What is claimed is: A spring tooth mounting comprising in combination with a support, a pair of companion disk-like sections having their adjacent surfaces serrated, a bolt passed through said sections and through said support for attaching the mounting upon the support, one of said sections being capable of rotation with relation to the other, a hollow tubular extension projecting from the rotatable section inaxial alignment with said bolt, and having diametrically opposed openings, a spring tooth having an offset curved extremity partly embracing the tubular extension and having an opening registering with the openings of said tubular extension, and a bolt passed through all of said openings in right angular relation to the first mentioned bolt for holding the tooth fixed relatively to said mounting.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
GEORGE J. MILLER.
