UNITE STATES PATENT OFFIoE.
AARON REPPARD, OF SAVANNAH, GEORGIA.
IMPROVEMENT lN ROLLER-GAGES FOR SAW-MILLS.
' Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,552, dated April 25, 1876; application filed March 6, 1876.
T) all whom it may concern:
Be it known, that I, AARON BEPPARD, of Savannah, in the county of Ohatham and State of Georgia, have invented an Improvement in Roller-Gages for Saw-Mills, of which the following is a specification:
The invention consists of a novel combination of devices for supporting and adjusting a roller'gage for saw-mills, as will be hereinafter more fully described. 4
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved roller-gage, together with dotted lines showing the relation of the'gage to the saw and the head blocks; and Fig. 2 is a front eleva tion.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Commonly the log is set over the thickness of the planks to be cut ofl' by a line or other means, the movement of which has to be gaged objections, and for this reason I propose to employ an adjustable roller-guide, A, on the side of which the boards B are cut, with a shifting-lever, (J, and a scale, D, for setting it for boards or planks of any thickness, said roller being located just in advance of the saw E, so that by setting the log F against it every board will be gaged exactly alike as to thickness, and the the attendant will be enabled to set the log quicker and with less care. N represents the head blocks on which the log is carried. The roller-gage is mounted in a bracket, G, which slides on the bed-piece H, and the lever is connected to it by the link U. The lever is connected to the bed-piece H by a bracket, K, which may be contrived in practice to be shifted along in case the gage is to be adjusted for very thick timber. M is a roller, which I also propose to use in connection with the rollergages for supporting the weight of the plank cut 01f.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the rollergage A, of the sliding bracket G, supporting-bed H, lever 0, link J, and toothed scale or lever-retaining segment D, as and for the purpose set forth.
. AARON REPPARD.
