This invention relates to a safety envelope and has as. one of its objects to provide an envelope of this kind possessing ina'rkedadvantages over the usual envelope of this typ as regards simplicity of structure ancl'convenience in sealing. 1
Another object of theinvention isto provide an envelope which may bc'used, with-sub stantially the same facility as the ordinary 1 0 envelope totransmit general correspond'enca' as well as being employed to serve, if desired, as a container for important documents or money, the invention contemplating so constructing the envelope that any efforts to open it for the purpose of removing or ascertaining the nature of the contents thereof without detection, will be frustrated due to thepeculiar construction of the sealingflap of the envelope which is such thatif any attempt of this nature should be made, it would be found impracticable to restore the envelope to its original sealed condition without evidences of such an attempt being visible.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like reference numerals indicate corresponding parts.
Fig. 1 is a view in elevation looking at the back of the envelope. l
Fig. 2 is vertical sectional view of the en- 'velope, on the line 22 of Fig. 1 the flap being illustrated in the position shown in Fig. 1..
i Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 but illustrating the envelope sealed.
Fig. i is a view in plan of one of the blanks of which the envelope is formed.
Fig. 5 is a similar view of another blank.
Fig. 6 is a similar view of a blank which is employed in providing the envelope, at its receiving side, with a pocket.
Fig. 7 is a horizontal sectional View, in detail, taken substantially on the lines 77 of Fig. 1. Fig. 8 is a fragmentary. perspective view illustrating the sealing flap of the envelope partly closed.

In the embodiment of theinventioii shown in F igures 1 to 7 incluslve, the body of the. envelope is formed of two blanks indicated onebythe numeral 1 and the other by the numeral 2 an'dwhich blanks are preferably of substantially rectangular form andofpaper} By reference to Figures 4 and 5 ofthe draw,-
ings it will be observed that the lower cor-v ners of the two blanks are cut diagonally and that the side and lower marginal portions'of each blank may therefor be folded against what will constitute. the inner face 'of the blank, along the fold lines 1? in the instance of the blank 1 and along the fold lines 2 in the instance of the blank 2, the lower margin of each blank being: folded along the corresponding lines. in the course of mm,- facture, these marginal portions are folded" inwardly and adhesive is applied to, their surfaces'and the two blanks are assembled with their marginal portions'in mutual contact as clearly shown 1n Figures 2, 3a'nd 7 of the drawings. When pressure has been];
applied to; the assembled 'blanks sov asto insure of a secure union of their int-urned marginal portions through the .mediumof the adhesive lines of stitching are run. 7 through said marginal portions, these lines;
being indicated by the numeral 3. ft willbe observed by reference to Figuresf1,'2, Sand 4 of they drawings that the blank 1 is pro vided, at its'upper 'endwitha closurefiap In addition-to the blanks 1 andiQ, t of the envelope includes a blanket which is preferably ofthe trapezoidal form shown in Figures v1 to 6 of the drawings and'of mar,-
ginal dimensions somewhat greater than the closure flap 1 andthis blank of celluloidor 1 other transparent material is disposed against the outer face of the blank 2 at the upper,
portions of the blank 4 and the loweredge portionthereof and the two inclined edge,
portion are stitched to the blank Q'bythe lines of stitching indicated by the numeral 5, this blank being assembled with theblank I 2 before the blanks 1 and'2'are mutually assembled. 4
As shown inFigures 1 and'8 of the draw-' ings, the inner side of the fiapeiztension' 1 of the blank 1 is provided with a coating of an adhesive. ter'to be transmitted or preserved therein is introduced into the envelope and the flap extension 1 is then moistened on its adhesive bearing side and overturned as shown in Figure 8 and inserted into the pocket which is previously. described.
formed by the Celluloid blank 4 and theportion of the blank 2 to which it is marginally celluloid or like transparent material, is wa ter-proof. It will therefore be wholly im practical to efiect surreptitious opening of the closure flap bythe use of water for it would be impossible to introduce into the pocket, a sufiicient quantity of water forthis purpose for the simple reason that the blank 4, of celluloid, is relatively rigid and as it is stitched to the upper portion of the blank 2 it holds this portion taut and there could be no distortion'of the parts-such as would effect opening or spreading of the pocket.
Figure 9 of the drawings illustrates a modification of the embodiment shown in Figures l to 8 inclusive to'the extent that, in
stead-of forming the body of the envelope of two blanks, the body is formed of a single blank the portions 6'of which are integrally united at one side of the blank as a whole.
In using the envelope, the mat 7 consisting of front and back wall blanks, having marginal side and lower portions folded inwardly and adhesively united whereby to seal the marginal portions of the body except at the top of the body, one of said walls having a closure flap extending from its upper edge and provided upon its inner surface with an adhesive for uniting it to the wall'over lapped thereby, and a sheet of waterproof material disclosed against the outer side of the last mentioned wall-of the body and secured thereto along its margins except its upper margin therebyto-constitute, in connection'with said wall, a pocket to house the closure flap.
33A safety envelope comprising a bod having its walls marginally united at all but one edge, one of the wallshavinga closure flap foldable to overlap the other wall and close the body at the said edge, the flap bear-J ing a coating of an adhesive, on its inner side for unltlng it to the wall overlapped thereby,
a wall portion of'transparent celluloid disposed against the outer side of thelast men tioned wall of the body and united by a line of stitching to said wall, the line of stitching securing the ends and lower margin of said wall portion, whereby the wall portion may constitute, in connection with the first mentioned wall to which it'is secured, a pocket to house the closureflap. V
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specfication.
ALFREDO GONZALEZ.
Otherwise the structure is the sameas that line of the body blank is indicated by the numeral 7 and the pocket by the'numeral 8.
Figure 10 of the drawings illustrates a modification in whichthe principles of the invention as displayed by Figures 1 to 8 'inclusive are embodied: in alarger sizeof en Velope and, in this figure, the reference letter indicates the body of the envelope and the reference numeral 9 indicates thepock- I ets in which the two 'closureflapsnvhich are employed in this embodiment are fitted at the time of sealing the envelope;
What'I claim'as new is 1'. A safety envelope comprising a body having its walls marginally united at all but one edge, one of the walls having a closure flap foldable to overlap the other wall, and
close the body at the said edge, the flap bearing a coating ofan adhesive on its inner side In this form,the fold for uniti'ngit' to the wall overlapped thereby, V
and a sheet of waterproof material disposed against the outer side'of the last mentioned wall of'the body and secured theretoalong itsmargins except its upper margin whereby to constitute, in connection with said wall, a packet tohouse the closure flap.
2. A safety envelope'comprisinga
