This invention has to do ,with improvements in doors for stoves, and the like. The invention relates especially to improvements in the means for sealing the edge portions of such doors in an air tight and steam tight manner so as to'be able to retain'the vapors under a reasonable amount of pressure. The invention relates especially to improvements such' as the foregoing incorporated in door s Ifor ovens of the tireless cooker type and also the type in whichV a certain amount of heat is initially Vgenerated and is then retainedv in the oven structure by the presence of a 'suitable heat insulating material. ,Y
More particularly the invention relates to improvements in the means for sealing the edge portions of the taper or wedge doors which are drawn to a wedging seat.
One object of the invention is to provide a seal of the foregoing nature and which is so formed that it can be readily applied to doors of a type of oven construction already eX- tensively in use. Another object of the invention is to provide an arrangement which will be very cheap to manufacture and which can be produced in considerable length and then cut up into sections of the proper length for use in different locations.
Other objects and uses of the invention will appear from a detailed description of the same which consists in the features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

In so doing however, it will be understood that I do not intend to thereby limit the application or usefulness of the features ofthe invention except as I may do so in the claims.
.v Bearing the foregoing in mind the vdoor structure as a whole is designated by the numeral L1. It includes the inner sheet metal pan 5 together with a front cover plate 6, the latter preferably reinforcedr by an outside plate 7. The peripheral portion of the pa'n 5 is ared outwardly on a tip 8 and the'nhas its extreme edge returned straight out as shown at 9 to receive-the edge portion 1() of the plate 6 which is folded vover said portion l9. Suitable heat insulating material 11 is placed within the pan before the cover 6 isV P securedthereon. v
The' flared portion 8 of the door sets into a companion jamb member 12 which has a slightly greaterflare. .The inner edge of the member 12 is returned on a relatively sharp but rounded angle on a reverse curve as'shown at 13 so as to establish an outwardly facing socket 14 whichleaves a slight clearance from the inner edge of the door pan 5. The Vwall 15 of the oven has its front edge rounded outwardly and lapped over the po`rtion 13', but is not carried over far enough to interfere vwith the placing o'f the seal gasket presently to `be described.
Suitable latches 16 and 17 are provided for loc'kinguand also for drawing the door home in la .tight manner.
lThe .sealing gasket is shown in detail in Figs. 2 and 3. VGenerally speaking it coinprises'a tubular strip or strips of asbestos cloth or similar material 18, and a wire 19 `is extended lengthwise through each of these tubular strips.' The tubular strips 'are of such size that when set into place as shown in Fig.' 2 they substantially occupy the portion 14 and when the door is forced home said .gaskets are compressed into an oblong'zor elliptical cross section as' illustrated Lin Fig. 2.
The gaskets are conveniently held in place bythe wires 19, for which purpose saidfwires may be extended beyond the tubular gaskets themselves and then extended through holesV in the sheetl2 and folded over as shown at 20 and 2l in Fig. 3.
It will be understood that the gaskets may be readily set into place or removed by slightly deiiecting the wires 19, but these wires are stiff enough to normally retain the gaskets in place when they have once been inserted. n
While I have herein shown and described only a single embodiment of the features of my present invention, still I do not intend to limit myself thereto except as I may do so in the claims. i
I claim: l
l. The combination with a rectangular door jamb having a relatively deep outwardly tapered sealing surface, terminating at its inner edge in an outwardly facing concave recess encircling the inner edge of said j amb, and a relatively thick door for said jamb, said door having its edge portion also tapered to conform to the taper of the door jamb, said inner edge ofthe door terminating in an inwardly reaching encircling projection working into the concave recess of the door jamb, of means for sealing said inner edge of the door with respect to the jamb comprising a sectional gasket composed of straight sections of asbestos tubing with reinforcing wires extending through them and beyond their ends, said tubing sections being seated into the concave'recesses of the jamb in position to receive the edge of the door, and the projecting ends of the wires extending` through openings in the corners of the jamb, substantially as described.

The combination with a rectangular door j amb having a relatively deep outwardly .tapering sealing surface terminating at its inner edge in an outwardly facing concave recess at the inner edge ofV said jamb, and a relatively thick door for said jamb, said door having its edge portion also tapered to conform to the taper of the door jamb, said inner edge of the door terminating in an in# wardly'reaching projection extending into the concave recesses of the door jamb, of means for sealing said inner edge of the door with respect to the jamb comprising a gasket composed of asbestos tubing, said tubing being seated into the concave recess of the jamb in position to receive the edge of the door, and means for securing said tubing in place within said recess, substantially as described.
