This invention. relates generally to new and useful improvements in overalls- The invention has foran object the provision of an article of the class mentioned which is of simple durable construction, de-

pendable in use and efficient in action and which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.

The invention proposes the use of an apron member secured at its upper edge to the waist portion of an overall at the front thereof and normally extending below the knee portions of the garment and capable of being folded upwards and secured in this position along its side edges to form a large pocket extending the complete width of the apron. Ordinary small pockets are attached upon the front of the apron above the line of folding and other pockets are attached upon the rear of the apron below the line of folding so when the apron is in its folded position the rear pockets are positioned on the front of the garment. A means may be provided for closing the latter mentioned pockets while the apron is in lowered position.

The reference numeral 10 indicates generally the trouser portionof a pair of overalls provided with bib portion "11 and a neck strap 12. An apron 13 issewed at its top edge upon the front portion of. the

trousers at the waist line and extends downwards to about the knee portions thereof. A belt section l is secured at one of its ends upon the trousers at the waist line and a second belt section 15 is similarly secured on the opposite side. Dot and dash lines '16 in Fig. 1 indicate the belt sections extended around the trousers to the rear and there knotted together. 1 v

A pair of pockets 17 are shown secured upon. the front of the apron above a horizontal folding line indicated by a dotand dash line 18. The apron is intended to be horizontally folded at this line asillustrated in Fig. 4 for providing a large pocketextop edge of the trousers 10-and the belt shown in the drawing may be used for securing the free ends together. Upper stripsQi-Z are secured along'the edgesv of the apron above the line" 18 and lower strips22 similarly secured below the line 18.- These strips are provided with snap fasteners 24- so that the apron may be secured in a raised-position. Figs. 1, 2" and 3 show the apron in a lowered position while Fig. 4 shows the raised position mentioned.

The particular ,means for holding the apron in its upper position may be varied and Figs. 5 and 6 disclose aimodifiedform in which a first row of hook members25 are mounted along the side edges of the apron and a second row 26similarly mountedbelow the folding line 18. A movable engager member 27 is engaged upon the hooks 25 and arranged for engaging the hooks when the engaging member is drawn in one direction and disengaging the hooks when drawn in the other direction. Such engaging members constitute a common construction generally known. I

In the modified form of the device illustrated in Fig. 7, posts 28 project from the top corners of the apron and the lower corners are formed with apertures 29 engageable over the posts to hold the apron in a raised position. A movable engager member 27 is mounted upon the edges of the apron as disclosed in Figs. 5 and 6 and in a raised position causes the edges to be secured together. Pockets 19 are mounted upon the front faces of the apron when said apron is in its raised position and the top opening of the pockets are arranged with a movable engager member 30 coactable with rows of hooks 31 for closing the said pookets. These pockets are so arranged that they are in closed positions when the engager members 30 are in positions near each other. Pins 82 project from the engager members 30 and pass thru transverse apertures 33 in the parts 28 for locking the apron in a raised position.

For lowering the apron it is necessary to move the engager members 27 downwards to their lowered position. This causes the sides of the apron to be open. It is next necessary to move engager members 80 together for disengaging the pins 32 from the apertures 33, and when the engager members 30 are moved together the pockets 19 are closed. Now the apron is free to assume its lower position and articles contained in the pockets 19 may not fall out due to the pockets being upside down.

While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is 1. In a garment of the class described,a

trouser portion, an apron attached at its top edge of the'waist portion of the trouser, posts projecting from the top corners of the apron, apertures formed in the lower corners to engage over the posts when therapron is in a folded position, means for securing the sides of the folded apron together, pockets mounted on the front face of the apron when in folded position means for closing the pockets, pins projecting from said pocket closing means into transverse aper-tures'in the aforesaid mentioned posts for loclring the apron in folded position.
