This invention relates to improvements in combined window ventilators and screens and 'ventilator and screen which is adjustable to accommodate windows of various s1zes.- T

The device forming the subject matter of the'invention may-be arranged at either the upper or lower end of the window frame.
The device includes a screen 7 having ad- 'justable end plates 8, and
a louvered panel 9 cooperates with the screen. The screen consists of a rectangular frame divided'vertically by a strip 10, and the-screen frame,

In assembling the screen, the wire mesh 15 is stretched across the. frame with its end portions over the channel-shaped part 11,
and then a clamping frame 16, which is substantially C-shaped in cross section, is placed a amst the rear side of the wire mesh an forced intothe channel-shaped part 11. In this operation the part :17 of Fig. 5is' a similar view of the same parts with the usual grooves 2 the clamping frame forces a .portion of the wire mesh against the inclined part 18' of the screen frame, and the turned edge 19' of the clamping frame presses an adjacent portion of the wire mesh nel-shaped part 11.

The grooves 13 formed in the top and bottom rails of the screen frame act as guides for hooks or. flanges 20 arranged at the top and bottom edges of adjustable ends preferably made of a piece of sheet metal, sultably bent to provide the hooks 20, and as these hooks engage the grooves, the end plates may readily slide toward and away from each other. The outer extremity of each end plate is cut away to provide tongues 21. and ears 22, the tongues being relatively thin so that they may be inserted into the sash grooves between the screen and the parting bead The ears 22 abut against the parting bead to limit the outward movement of the slidin extensions 8 of the screen, and as shown in Iig. 3, each ear has a slot 23 to receive the headed end of a screw or the like which may be employed in fastening the ears to the parting bead.
Of course, if the device is mounted at of the window frame, such headed fastemngs will hold the device at the top of the frame.
The ears 22 also function as stops for the sliding extensions to prevent the latter from moving inwardly past the ends of the screen frame.
The grooves 13 at the sides of the screen frame receive hooked guide portions 24 of the side edges of the panel 9, and this construction permits the panel to be removed by simply raising the panel above the screen frame. To facilitate this, the upper edge of the panel may be provided with a rearwardly extending flange 25 which normally rests on top of the screen frame, and which may be readily grasped by the operator when the panel is to be removed.
The panel is also preferably made of a sheet metal stamping and is provided with louver openings 26 which admit the air and excludedrafts, rain and snow.
In manufacturing the device, the various parts with the exception of the wire mesh,
' may be made ofsheet metal stampings and the screen frame and clampin frame may each consist of a number of strips con- 1nirlaictedat their ends by spot-welding or the From the foregoing it will be seen that the invention provides an adjustable combination window ventilator and screen which may be made of durable steel with an oven baked enamel finish. What is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. A combination window ventilator and screen comprising a frame carrying wire mesh, adjustable extensions'for the ends of the frame, slidable laterally towards and away from each other, and a louver panel adjustably mounted on the screen frame and slidable upwardly and downwardly thereon.
2. In a device of the character described, a screen frame carrying wire mesh, ad'ustable extensions for the frame arrange on one face of the frame and movable on the latter towards and away from each other, and a louver panel 'movably mounted on the screen frame, .arranged on the opposite face thereof and movable in a path at right angles to the path of movement of the adjustable extensions.
3. In combination, a screen frame carrying wire mesh and provided at its top, bottom and ends with guide ways, adjustable extensions for the frame having guide members sliding in the guide ways at the top and bottom of the frame, and a louver panel having guide members engaging the guide ways at the ends of the frame to permit the panel to be slid upwardly and downwardly over said wire mesh.
4:. An extension for a window ventilator frame comprising a sheet metal plate provided at its top and bottom edges with guide members, one end of said extension having upper and lower tongues to engage a sash groove of a window frame, and an ear integral with the plate and arranged at an angle to said tongues, said ear having a slot to receive a fastening device used in securing the ear to awindow frame.
